It must have been put together somehow, so it must come apart! It does look a bit of a puzzle though.

The grille I’ve got came with instructions that said to assemble the grille and panel and then fit the panel to the vehicle. Very easy with an aircon panel. Bit of a faff if not. I’m 95%, if not 100%, certain you’ve got to come at those bottom two bolts from the underside. Charlie

Bit extreme measure to take the grill off
As a similar could you not remove rad/ intercooler IIRC bolts for this are accessible from engine bay |

I’ve just fitted this grille to my non aircon model so have just done the reverse of what you are trying to do. Yeah they are accessed from underneath, I used a ratchet with plenty of long reach attachments and stepped down to be the narrowest socket set I own with an angled UJ socket piece on the end (or whatever they are called) and you should be able to get to those bottom bolts. When I fitted the grille I had to cut a slot in the side of the grille so I suspect yours will be the same and you just need to undo the bolts about 5mm and the grille should slide out.

Well this grille is a stupid design. Can't access the bolts from the bottom and because I can't get the grille out I can't get to the bolts which would let me remove the grille fascia panel. Not a clue how this has been fitted, unless is was done with the intercooler removed but that is so much work to just remove a grille? Instagram - @Land_Rover_Defender

Surely it cannot be that complicated to get the panel off? Do you know the grille manufacturer? You might be able to get fitting instructions for it and then reverse them. Charlie

This grille is not designed to be fitted to a 'non aircon' front, it has almost certainly been glued / siliconed in place - you will need to lever it off ....

No update. The grille is still on. Yes I don't understand why it is so difficult Baron it is really annoying haha.
In response to it being glued on. The bolts have actually been bolted down with the nuts. So if it had been siliconed into place then there is no way you would be able to put the nuts on after this. Meaning it must have been bolted on. My only thought now is to remove the slam panel and undo the four bolts at the top. Leaving the two bolts at the bottom to get at, which I can't however because the grille is in position. I literally just want to remove the grille to clean the intercooler and paint the braces... And you’ve tried removing the steering guard to gain access? Charlie

Got the b*****d off! So I removed it by getting a ratchet spanner onto the bolts on the side from the engine bay. It was a very tight squeeze, thankfully I have smaller hands else it would have been difficult. So anyone with the same grille and non AC then that is the way to do it.
I have removed the slam panel to paint it tidy it all up. Thanks for the help with it! Click image to enlarge Instagram - @Land_Rover_Defender |
