Interesting spin from corporate JLR "In a statement, JLR said its direct supply chain is "primarily European and in the UK, with a small percentage in China"; whilst boss says ""We have flown parts in suitcases from China to the UK,". https://www.bbc.com/news/business-51548976 Keen to downplay the Chinese content? |

I’m still completely astounded that in 2020 whilst already having the technology for electric only as well as Hybrid engines, JLR think it is acceptable to launch a new vehicle (Defender) without offering either alternatives at launch! I mean - what were they thinking. If ANY manufacturers think I’m going to spend £55k plus of my money on a brand new car that does offer at the very minimum a hybrid engine then they are seriously mistaken. In 3 to 5 years time you Won’t be able to give their Diesel/Petrol only variants away!! They are good to loose so much money it’s frightening

I'm sure the PHEV will be along shortly as it must a straight lift from the RR/RRS 4cyl installation, my wife runs a RRS PHEV and its fabulous. 75mpg whilst charged, 45mpg overall according to the trip thingy.
I'm not sure an EV Defender (or any tall SUV/4x4) is such a good idea given the shed shape. 2015 90 XS SW Bowler 1998 TD5 CSW |

Don’t think anyone has yet, rivian look like they will be first to get over the line with such a size and shape I’ll be very interested in real world numbers when it hits the market. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

I was up in the office today at work and it looks like the gaffers were having a collection of OLD batteries in a plastic tub on a shelf... Putting Dreams on Drives at JLR Solihull.. |

Has anyone taken the time to work out how many diesel powered vehicles are used in the mining, processing, transportation of this 'clean' power source?

Not quite the original comment:
In various stages of pre-production as well as Rivian, quoted above, also: Lincoln (via Rivian) Tesla Bollinger Byton Atelier Nikola Motors Fisker Expeng Motors Faraday I think there's over $15 billion currently invested in these, so that's quite a lot. Some may fail, but as Tesla has shown in it's current markets, get the proposition right and the demand soon follows. And then let's not forget that JLR may have done a 2nd 180 on a BEV Defender...and it may be coming... More news/confirmation on the BEV new Range Rover (albeit scant details): https://www.carscoops.com/2020/02/2022-ran...v-variant/ Last edited by Supacat on 25th Feb 2020 6:44am. Noise pollution is nearly always left out of any discussion on the environment. (Strangely, many males seem to think that the more noise their car or bike makes, the bigger their "manhood" grows ). I mean, can you imagine big, powerful SILENT motorbikes? If a new power source brings peace and quiet back to the environment, there will be extra benefits, especially with mental health. Meanwhile, those forced to live near roads can only dream.... |

Did a bit of green laning in a FFRR p400e last year most of which was in pure electric mode, sun shining roof and windows open was very nice and did make me think EV for off-road has other benefits especially for wild life spotting etc. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Who is "forced"? Quite like the common sense ‘agent of change principle’ that now appears to be more widely adopted. |

Covid 19 seems to be the go-to excuse for any issue right now. Hard to know what's true and what's not. Or should that be 'what snot'? WARNING.
