Hi guys, I have just bought a double din fascia and android radio for my Defender, however I really don't want to cut into my dash in order to relocate the stock hazard switch. So I did some digging and I found out that some guys have managed to replace the stock hazard switch with a Disco 2 Hazard switch, this seemed pretty easy but has turned out to be a little more complex that originally planned.
I have been chatting to a few other guys in another post about double din and installations etc: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic14387-30.html Can anyone provide some clarity on exactly what has to be done, I'm based in South Africa so I'm going to have to find someone that can do it here in Cape Town but at the moment every person I speak to just wants to cut off and replace the switch connector behind the dash. When it comes to the electronics with these Pumas I'm not too clued up so if anyone has had this done or knows how to do it, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys! Hi Martin, what a fantastic idea! I actually gave up trying to find someone in South Africa that could actually do this properly. I'm a big fan of keeping a stock look so haven't cut into my dash. I managed to get a retrofit cupholder from MCMA1 (Andy) but I'd prefer to move it back to the dash.
Question, would you be interested in a trade? I have a KBX style cupholder with hazard switch that I modelled up for 3D printing, it's been refined over the past few months as and when I got time to work on it. Let me know if you are interested. Cheers |

Thats great Martin, when did you start those? Think you need to get the word out!
I had Paul Mc make me up one a few years ago with added relays so that it flashes when in opperation |

Anyone know if there's a blanking insert available that will fit the standard hazard switch hole?

Does the checktemp gauge fit in the hazard hole? Might be more useful than a blank?

I don't know about the checktemp thingy. The reason for asking is that the flip front head unit I now have fitted covers the hazard switch (which doesn't really bother me) but moving it makes some sense. The hole left by moving the switch wouldn't really be useful for anything though as it is obscured by the flip screen.
It would be easy enough to spray the button of the old switch to match the dash and just leave it there I suppose. |

Given the cost of the hazard switch if you were to cover it I would vinyl wrap it or use some wide insulation tape so it could be peeled off at a later date. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

I made a similar project to Martin in order to use the disco hazard switch. Suitably modified etc. . I then Used an old Rover 100 hazard switch As a blank which fitted perfectly. 3 quid on eBay. Sprayed it the same colour to match the other switches.
