My advice would be to sit down and think about what you are actually going to use the vehicle for before going out on a spending spree on accessories.

^^^ as above.
Also, you'll spend quite a lot more if you get the dealer to do it than if you go aftermarket (unless they're throwing stuff in for free). Protection is no bad thing. Tyres will make the most difference off road. Lamp guards look good but might not be of any real purpose for the sort of use you're going to get. As suggested, though, think before you buy. I just fitted a steering guard to mine (easy DIY) and it cost me less than £100. Dealer was 2.5x that IIRC. Congratulations on the truck! You won't regret it. Hi SMJ,
It sounds as if you are in a really similar situation to myself - I'm also as excited as a school boy about taking delivery of my new 90 Station Wagon. The wheels you mention above (from Nene) are also available through Silverline tyres directly (see link http://www.silverline4x4.co.uk/4x4/aluminiumwheels/index.htm) I've bought wheels and tyres through them before (be it some time ago) and they're a really helpful bunch - normally pretty cheap too. Thanks all - wise words re hanging on with some of the accessories. I'll prob just one or two of the cheaper bits for now.
Greg - thanks for that link to the wheels - that's perfect. I think the one ot Nene looks great on those wheels, so depending on the price they will have to go on quite soon! |

Thanks. Well I've dumped the idea of lamp guards already - can add them easily later as mentioned. One interesting point the dealer made is that anything I have added BEFORE I collect the car will all be covered with the 3 yr warranty, whereas anything I get them to add after I've collected it will only get a 1 yr warranty... Having said that, I can't see much in the way of warranty claims on lamp guards etc., but worth knowing I suppose...
I presume it's worth getting dealer to do any chequer plate on the front wings in case that has a bearing on bodywork/ rust claims later on? Grockle - you serious about getting it rust-proofed?!? Anyone got any tips/ experience for someone in Kent please?!? |
