Thankfully, the rest of the chassis is in good order with minimal rust, it seems to be just the rear x-member that has suffered.

Is there any truth in my thoughts that x-member replacement hurts values?

X members need replacing every decade or so on a 'working vehicle'; i doubt it does much if anything to vehicle value on a working vehicle (it might even increase it) - didn't affect my 90s value when i sold it to buy a 110.

i'd go galv if you keeping it for more than a few years and i'd get it done up north or on dartmoor where things are much cheaper. mine was done by paul marsden who only does chassis swaps and he's right beside the richards factory. almost 2k cheaper than doing it where i live now in oxfordshire. 110 Defender 300tdi & Penman trailer with ally exped top and roof tent

Fitting a Galvi chassis isnt a fit and forget, i fitted mine 15 years ago, and its rusting in area"s now, i would paint or Raptor paint the new chassis Before fitting ,,
