cheers, i see from the thread you have the one fitted. seems a good option.
Does it need the ISO wiring harness for fitting to a puma? https://www.mudstuff.co.uk/defender-iso-wiring-adapters.html i believe not on a 2010 one is that correct? Thinking of upgrading my head unit soon too, I have an 07 puma and want to install the alpine UTE-200BT, Anyone know of the top of their heads if I need an ISO adapter and if so which one.

If the HU is DIN ISO which nearly all are it’ll plug straight in on your Defender.

The LR fit Alpine definitely isn't standard ISO, so it's worth checking the spec. of the one you're interested in. Darren

Wasn’t that one designed and fitted to 2012 onwards Defenders? As the 2012 on has its own wiring that isn’t ISO, I assume LR matched them up in the hope that people would accept its only that unit ‘Genuine Part’ that would fit. Where in fact you can get a loom to ISO adaptor to fit any aftermarket HU.
If I had a 2012 on myself personally I’d take off the factory plug / socket assembly and fit ISO. That way there isn’t any need for the bulk of adaptors. It’s annoying though and time consuming seeing as 07 - 2012 was ISO plug and play. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |

2012 is LR fitting, did some digging today and 07 to 12 i believe is ISO, will pull mine and check soon. Cheers

What I was getting at is that the connector on the head unit itself may not be the standard ISO connectors - the typically brown and black 8 pin blocks, although sometimes moulded as one large connector. The connector into the back of the factory Alpine is completely different so the OP's intended unit may share that manufacturers' quirk.
You can get an idea of the difference from this pic that I took of the two different adaptors when changing my head unit recently. Yes, I know what you mean LRA.
In some cases some people end up with two adaptors. On mine which is ISO factory fitted to the vehicle: 1) So it's Factory ISO > ISO > HU Specific rear Connector into the back of the unit. 2) On the 2012 on it'd be LR loom Connector > ISO > ISO > HU Specific rear Connector. 3) I'd imagine the Alpine unit LR sell for the Defender is LR loom Connector > HU Specific rear Connector. The last option means there isn't the bulk of the additional ISO Connectors but then means your stuck with Alpine only (.if the HU rear one matches) and you don't have all options available of manufacturers that ISO suits as that's generic. It's blooming annoying that LR did that on the later models.. To suit all aftermarket options it'd be better to remove the factory spefic plug and replace with (1) male ISO (Keeps plugs and sockets to a minimum) OR use a factory Connector lead to male ISO adaptor instead (2). As you can tell, it just adds an annoying extra lead required at cost or hard wiring on the later models. The earlier models are simply plug and play. 3) Is an option but I bet that Alpine will have models that it would and wouldn't fit making it difficult to match up. I suppose you could always enquire though, so nothing ventured nothing gained. Should you change model though or manufacture down the line you'd then need ISO again though anyway. There is plenty of room behind there to fit the extra ISO Connector blocks in though so that isn't a big issue. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |

A quick Google reveals that the Alpine UTE-200BT does indeed have the same type of rear connector as the LR fit model: Click image to enlarge If your Defender is of an age where it has standard ISO connectors behind the dash then you'll need an adapter like this, which can be found on eBay for not very much money: Click image to enlarge Search for 'Alpine 16 Pin ISO Wiring Harness'.
