West Yorkshire Fire Service Defender
Yesterday walking through Holmfirth I saw one of the Defenders currently utilised by West Yorkshire Fire Service. It was parked on the forecourt. I had seen it or one like it once before driving along but at the time I was unable to photograph it. This time though I was more successful because the firefighters who were present at the station kindly allowed me to have a look & take some “snaps”. I was told that it is one of three that West Yorkshire Fire Service have. One of the others is based in Todmorden. I don’t know/remember about the other.
The firefighter who spoke to me said that they are less busy during the winter as they are often used on the moors to attend to fires there. He also told me that they had purchased the three vehicles as they get better value than leasing them like they had done in the past with previous units. They currently have them serviced at a L/R dealership in Bradford.
The Defender looked great. Everything was clean & pristine. Photos are below.

I saw them out and about last week and the lads looked really uncomfortable squashed inside the truck cab.

It’s a fair comment Gingez. There’s not much room in the cabin. It is fully occupied with extra equipment. I tried photographing it but the result was poor what with the glare from the sun. And that was on the day it snowed. The chap I spoke to was enthusiastic about it so I don’t know if he is bothered He also mentioned that they tow a trailer with other equipment but that was not there to see so I cannot report about that.

The one you couldn't remember is stationed at Keighley... Or at least it was. They've each got a horsebox type trailer for extra gear and Todmorden has an argocat too.
This was a proper beast to drive and used to be at Elland in the early 90s.
