Who ties down a vehicle like this?

https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/jaguar/10733...first-time

OK, it might just be me, but really what sort of numpty secures a vehicle on a trailer like that?

I wonder if it was in the UK, the DVLA might stop them and have a word?

One loop of a spoke...It'll be fine Shocked

I hope they also put the vehicle in park or 1st gear and applied the handbrake
before jamming the loose straps in the door... SKIP

I've got to be honest, I'd rather see that than other attempts I've seen. (I once saw a classic mini tied around the front and rear bumpers)

They obviously don't have the proper tyre straps so have done the next best thing. At least they've tied it to the wheels and not the body Shocked 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

That's the assumption but this is the new all-electric 2020 Jaguar XJ spied for the first time, or at least a development mule, it's going nowhere without a JLR engineer, is probably quite a valuable vehicle, it's definitely quite an expensive development programme yet they either can't afford the right kit, manage it, or worse don't know how to secure a load.

And this is their day job...

Using the power of positive thinking... This is actually JLR being very thorough and testing if the wheel can withstand how the car will actually be secured by your local backstreet bodyshop on their overloaded 2003 3.5t transit. Bit like how they ram them into curb and jump over speed bumps in the development process. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Off readers and comp trucks I have always strapped the body and pulled it down until bump stop is contacted. Works for me. Less mass moving around than if just strapped on wheels. Cheers

No, there is a better way. You can put a loop around the tyre and then the ends of the strap go in the usual places. It's a bit of an emergency measure but does work. 2011 110 USW

I think belly-wrapping
, if that is what you are describing, requires tensioning on both ends to meet best practice standards. Noted you reference emergency measures.
