Wrangler MT/R's
I do about 2,000 miles a year max in my 98MY 90 and it has just gone through the MOT and the tyres came up as an advisory. I currently have BFG KO2 on which are pretty old and perished and like me, a bit bald now!
The vehicle is kept in wales in the summer for towing the boat and getting stuff across the beach and in the winter months when I go shooting so it does see the mud so probably a 60:40 split between road and off road. I like the BFG's but I can't really justify the extra when i do so little mileage but still i want a good tyre. I have been quoted £118 fully fitted inc VAT per tyre for MT/R's, is this a good price? I like the look of the tyre and it looks like it will do everything I need of it on and off road. Also if anyone has a set of 4 they are selling within the midlands I would also be interested

Price is good and tyre is excellent off road. On road it is noisy and thirstier than KO2s, but I guess that is to be expected.

I had MT/R's on my 110 and they were great. They are noisy, though Laughing For your use, I wouldn't hesitate. Darren

I run them as well. as said, quite noisy, but grip in mud & snow very well, and handle OK on the road too

For your usage kos, mts or the mtrs would all work. I guess age cracking will be a greater issue than wear as the reason to change, on that note ko2,3s will cost more but last longer for cracking and wear compared to mtrs in my experience. Cheers

I really wanted KM3's on red, but like you just can't justify the cost for the use they get. I'm sure any tyre on 3k a year will perish long before it wears out?

I ended up going for Toyo Open Country MT. Only £105 each delivered and available in 255x85R16. I've been very impressed with them, no road noise over the 200tdi engine, handle very well on road and off-road they have ridden through all the deep ruts and wet grass I've thrown at them, but probably not properly tested.

Look pretty decent too, IMO.

Hello,

We had to buy a set for one of the vehicles at work recently and had to wait a couple of weeks for a full set of 4- Supplier suggested to us that they were now out of production so they had to buy in from other wholesalers to secure a full set?

Not sure whether this is correct or not but also rang a couple of other suppliers who could not be sure when they would be able to supply them.

Thanks for all of the advice, it is booked in on Monday to have the MT/Rs fitted, as I don't do much distance apart from two trips to Wales a year I don't think the noise is going to be much of an issue and as others have said they are more than likely to persih long before I have worn them out. I just hope they do have them in stock as promised.

I've had MT/R's for about 40k miles, they are now maybe 50% worn. Good in almost all conditions, but much noisier on tarmac than my old Cross-Contacts... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

I have the MTR's on white Wolf style steel wheels and I'm not ashamed ashamed admit that they were both fitted for mostly aesthetic reasons. That aside, I'd not change them for anything else. On the few occasions they've been off road in mud, sand and shale, I've never had any problems. Similarly they've been in fine snow.

They are undoubtedly noisier than the part worn Michelin Lattitudes that I'd pinched form Mrs Snorkers' 90" when's her tyres were replaced, but as others have said, its all relative. Mine's is a 110" hardtop so it was never going to be silent. Noise is most noticeable cornering when I hear them humming a bit. I did loose about 1.5 mpg when switching, however as they say these days, 'your mileage may vary' Your price is also less that I paid locally (NE Scotland). Most balanced up reasonably well with only one needing about 4 rim weights, others less. This could in part be be down to the steel wheels so it would give me no cause for concern

Oh, did I mention that they look awesome!!
I see that you're booked in for them, so my tupenceworth won't sway your choice in any way, but may go some way to reassure you that it should be money well spent.

Had Wrangler MTR for a few years and found them to be OK. Better than BFG AT type tyres but. They were noisy and whilst pretty good on mud and rocks, absolutely hopeless on anything other than fresh snow, typically the front end would let go first and that without much provocation. Had the front end go straight on at a worrying number of corners.
Then again the amount of show that falls in UK these days that is hardly likely to be a worry.
