My daughter might be selling her 2013 5 door VW Polo 1.2 diesel, so cheap insurance group and excellent mpg. Think the mileage is around 31,000 and the colour is red. There is a dent in the rear side door about 6 inches in size, but no paint damage.
Let me know if your interested, and I can find out how much she wants for it. |

My sister has still got her first car 6 years on
 it's a 2008 Vauxhall Corsa D. 1.3 ecoflex (turbo diesel) She averages about 65mpg and as hers is a car derived van the insurance is cheap as there are only 2 seats and it's an unusual choice for a younger driver  2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

A friend of mine has a petrol 1.25 Ford Fiesta for sale, I think it’s 2002 possibly. Down side- Metallic purple, rust on passenger door. Upside- cheap, low mileage, old lady owner since 2 years old.

If it were me for my lad I’d be looking at a Polo, an Audi A2 or a mini one, He’s hell bent on a Mini so I’ll not be getting much choice, DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN

Id would look at bigger cars, like the ford focus, 207, 208 and astra diesels. From what i found from my days is that the larger cars like that are cheaper to insure as 1st cars than the smaller corsa etc. My rover metro was 200 quid more to insurer than a 306 1.9 Dturbo. i had no claims and it made bot all difference learner or as a passed driver. My 306 would make a great 1st car, but there is no way in hell, he would get insured on one, due to the age of these now, the last ones ( the model i have ) is very close of been 20 year old. Insurnaces will see it as a classic car and may not like it. Due to him been a younger than the car. A poor kid i knew bought a metro on an F plate and he was 17 at the time, it was a couple of years older than him at the time. The insurance just wouldnt play, so he had to sell it on sadly. from recent experience both the age of the car and status of driver (i.e still learning or recently passed) makes a huge difference to insurance costs..........
we sorted a 1998 Pug 206 for my niece (previously the father in laws car from new) which was perfect for her to learn to drive in and insurance was very reasonable - once she passed here test they suddenly wanted £4K+...... in the end it was more cost effective for her to buy a 3yr old Fiat 500 as the insurance was only marginally over £500!! just yet another insurance scam no doubt......... |

I don't think you can go wrong with a Fiesta to be honest, fairly nice overall little car, and had a few over the years. Obviously depends on age you are looking at, the 1ltr EcoBoost is a good drive, economical, free road tax but obviously this will mean higher purchase cost as more recent.

Wouldn’t recommend an older used Mini, they have lots of mechanical problems even when well looked after - take a look at the Mini2.com forums to see some of the expensive problems a modern mini can have. Hi were not selling ours but i can highly recommend the Skoda citigo, VW Up, Seat Mii great little car, cheap to buy cheap tax £20, cheap insurance,decent spec air con,sat Nav,full size spare wheel, 3 cylinder and under 1 litre engine size ours is a 2014 and has now done nearly 75K miles with no issues

If you can manage a Fiesta from 58 reg onwards, they feel great, like a much bigger car (the way the doors shut, etc) and they handle brilliantly. You often also get heated screens and air con, etc. The tax is cheap, they're also cheap to run, and not much goes wrong with them.
We've had a 2010 1.6 petrol (Ti-VCT) one for six years and still love it. Sadly your lad won't easily get insurance on that model though. |

My daughter has her 07 plate VW Fox for sale. 1.2 petrol with 122k miles . Years MOT . Bodywork has a couple of little marks but nothing dreadful. Her insurance as a first time driver was under £1000 on it which isn’t bad considering. Drop me a message if you want more info/photos. Think she wants a grand for it?? I’m in Dorset as well not far from Bournemouth

I was told that my Team Leaders 3 year old mini would have cost a bomb to fix, if it wasn't under warranty. Something to do with the electronics, the car wouldn't start at all. yeah they do like to take the  , I cannot see how they justify the prices. The 206 should have been peanuts, due to how many of those are about on the road now. But then again the 206 may have been seen as a classic car due to the age of it. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
