My one used to mess about at the connection where I spliced into the signal wire at the ecu multiplug. I sorted this out with a proper waterproof heat shrink crimp connector and all is well. Worth a look/ wiggle as it’s only a seat base remove with standard seats.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Will looking into the feed for the signal. I’ve been checking the connections under the driver seat too, but can’t see any issues. I’ve got another rev doubter now to try, but not sure it will be any good for coding that a td5 needs. Will report back as I test things out, |

So just an update on this issue.
We have not been out much in our TD5 due to lockdown, but as it’s eased we have started doing a few jobs. Never found any issues with the wiring, so decided it must be a fault with the Rev Counter itself and ordered a new TD5 genuine one from Rimmer Brothers. Wired it all up yesterday, powered up fine, did the full test on power up and the illumination was all good, but as before no revs indicated. So we started to do some more trading of the wires. As power seemed good, we concentrated on the ecu pulse feed. We did some continuity tests back to the pin on he ecu, and found that it was all good. On our 2000 model year car, we have a grey and white cable that comes out of the black pin on the ecu. It is then in the loom at the back of the dash pack. And of course we then found the fault. The cable for the ecu pickup was just loose in the great connector plug, replaced the pin, soldered and crimped it, and we instantly had revs working on the new gauge. Checked the previous gauge, which of course now works fine again. So now we have a TD5 VDO Low Tension model Rev counter spare. My own fault for not checking the wiring more thoroughly.
