Yes, using the key doesn’t set the internal sensors, but still arms the doors and bonnet and activates the immobiliser.
Using your dog though could still result in the loss of your bonnet and lights etc.  |

Is that model-dependent? In the 2012 owner's handbook it says
"It is not recommended that the vehicle is locked with the key. Key locking does not arm the alarm system. " |

You can just pull the connector out of the back of the internal sensor (that just pulls off) and then use alarm and remote as standard.

Very easy to check. Open driver's window, lock vehicle with key, reach in and unlock and open door. On my '07 Puma this will startle the neighbours! |

Also from 2012 alarm unit is diffraction from one fitted to 2008 puma

Hold drivers dog open press to arm alarm, horn sounds twice shut the door alarm set for doors and bonnet, windows and animals can move about in vehicle. I’m sure I read that in owners manual, and do use it from time to time.

Extract from WS manual for MY2012:
Volumetric Protection Volumetric protection monitors movement within the cabin. When the system is first armed, the anti-theft module suspends volumetric protection for 15 seconds. This allows air in the cabin to settle and prevents nuisance triggers. The anti-theft system module monitors movement in the vehicle cabin using the intrusion detection module. The anti-theft system module will not initiate volumetric protection unless the intrusion detection module detects no disturbances for 15 seconds. If, during the 15 second arming period movement is detected, the 15 second period will re-start from 0. Volumetric protection can be disabled in one of two ways: By locking the vehicle with the key in the driver's door rather than using the remote RF handset. By locking the vehicle with the remote RF handset while the driver's door is open. If the driver's door is subsequently shut, only the perimetric system will be armed. May be different for other years, but all mine have operated as above. |
