My 6 year old great nephew is a fanatical LEGO Technics model maker And a Land Rover fanatic and has been pestering me to get one for him, I’m sure he could build it without assistance but looking at what you guys have done so far I would think he might get bored/ impatient to finish so many component sub-builds....... he also knows I have an unopened box in the house....

Have a read of this chaps comprehensive review:

https://brickset.com/article/45846/review-...r-defender

"The first stage of construction is arduous and care must be taken to ensure the gearboxes are built correctly but once they are out the way things become more enjoyable as the bodywork comes together. There's very little repetition, other than left- and right-handed sub assemblies, but that's unavoidable.

The gearbox is, frankly, a bit pointless. It's incredibly complicated and mine fails to run smoothly in all circumstances. Of course I could have made a mistake, or perhaps built it more carefully to minimise friction, but if I, with 20+ years of Technic building experience, have trouble, what hope does a kid have. Perhaps the boundaries of what's possible with Technic have been pushed just a bit too far."

I’ve not built Lego since I was a kid, so this should be fun but may test my patience. Just as well I have Christmas off this year. It might be built by the time my 90 arrives in September Laughing

Thanks for that Supacat, I retire in 2 months time so it could be something we do together when he comes to visit on school holiday days with no off-roading to do! Might test my patience too though............. sounds crazy but I might get a 2nd kit for us to make so I have a collectors unopened one as well Embarassed Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Hey nothing mad about that.

I was thinking if I get one it will be consigned to a shelf in the workshop with a few other models. Trouble is it's right behind the dust port on the mitre saw so models disappear for months on end until I get the Dyson out.

Was thinking this could be the answer:

Some unopened Lego sets are going for a pretty penny. Nothing daft in buying and keeping as an investment.

That case looks good, I may get one myself, will save the Landy rolling off the shelf and months of graft in a million bits Laughing

Lego ~ a cheaper alternative
Possibly also with less verticality...or is it more?

OK most of you will be familiar with the Lego offering, I must say it looks a great effort from Lego
and this 2573 piece 3D jig-saw should keep me busy during lock-down 2.0

But what also turned up (for my birthday Cool) was a Briksmax LED Lighting Kit... who'd of thought it
an independent after market accessory to improve the original... Thumbs Up

Myla will still get her walks... even though she has doubts
