I'm in need of some new tyres, 7.50R16. I've been using Michelin Latitude Cross for the last 80k miles, I've been happy with their performance but they're expensive and don't last long.
Since I last bought tyres the Bridgestone has come out in the correct size and it's much cheaper so is attractive. Any opinions? The only other ones I've seen is the BFG Mud which I don't really want. |

because they're one of the few decent brand name tyres that I've found in 7.50R16!
I'm not a fan of mud tyres, they're not sufficiently better in mud for my use than ATs and they're very compromised for everything else. Tyre size makes a more noticeable difference than tread pattern in my experience. |

Why not go for 235/85’s you’ll have a lot more choice

Because a) that would be changing wheels and b) the performance is worse*. 7.50s (at least the Michelins) have a larger diameter than 235s which also helps.
I could change, but I would prefer not to. That being said, if anyone's got experience of the Bridgestone tyres in any other size I'd be interested to hear! *I know in principal there are some scenarios where wider tyres can be an advantage, but I've never come across them in practice. Had a memorable time last year in Morocco when I was told "next time you come to Africa bring some proper tyres" and drove right past all the vehicles with "proper tyres" despite mine being the least powerful vehicle and least experienced driver on the dunes. Not that they never get stuck but they do tend to do better than you'd expect given the lack of tread. |

Had duellers a while back on a pick up. All I can say is that they lasted very well and I don’t recall getting stuck off road, but this was quite a few years back so memories could be deceiving me!

I haven't suffered them for a few years but my main recollection with Bridgestones is that the sort that comes standard on Japanese vehicles may as well be made of cardboard for all the puncture resistance they had.
Be aware that "7.50R16" can vary considerably in both diameter and width/footprint. Compare the old Michelin XS sand tyre with just about any other tyre in the same size to see what I mean, the XS is huge. I think 7.50 is a size that is fading out and although I don't use tyres in that size range due to a completely different requirement, I'd just go for 235/85R16 for the reasons stated. If you want circumference but not width, 255/85R16 is a popular size giving a good 33" tyre with a narrowish footprint (though of course still wider than the ones you have). I fitted Goodyear Wrangler AT 7.50 x 16 to a 200 tdi 110. They require a tube. They are a good tyre and a decent all rounder. Previous to this I had General SAG 7.50 x 16 tyres but the Goodyear Wrangler is a better tyre.
The Wranglers are not as silky smooth as the Michelin Latitude Cross which I have on a Puma in 235/85/16 size but what is? https://www.goodyear.eu/en_gb/consumer/tir...ATADV.html The thread on mine is slightly different to the one featured here. To slightly finish this thread, though ask me again in a few tens of thousands of miles, I had the Bridgestones fitted today.
They're very similar dimensions to the Michelins, despite in some areas the fact they're marked as 7.50/80 instead of 7.50/100. On the tyres they're 7.50R16 so all good. They have the mountain rating which the Michelins do not and they have much more tread depth than the Latitude Cross ever did. They also look better, but that's never been a priority for me. They've no noisier (I can't hear either sort) but time will tell if that changes. If they last as long then I'll be happy. Helps that they were 25% cheaper too. |

Cupboard, how are they A/T 001's going so far, appreciate its only been a few weeks.

No pictures I'm afraid, though they look rather less wimpy than the Michelins!
I'm very pleased so far, though I haven't been off road yet. Only done about a thousand miles. They do look like they're bulging a little more than the Michelins, that might be an optical illusion. |

Update after a few months.
Done about 3000 miles now. Tread has reduced by about 0.5mm, it was 11mm at the outer tread blocks and 9.5mm at the inner ones. At that rate they should do better in terms of longevity but it's early days. On road performance better than the Michelins. I think off road also better. I towed a cherry picker out of a field a couple of weeks ago and they managed that fine. Possibly says more about the crap performance of brand new BFG All Terrain tyres than the good performance of the Bridgestones! If things keep going this well I'll buy another set. |
