Ordered a 110 First Edition. Reason First Edition is that it is reasonably "standard" which means the build quality should be good.

Ordered from Marshall of Lincoln who had sold loads. Probably won't be first batch, which means the Summer. Am I bothered, NO. The later the better means a higher quality product.

Also, visited the reveal at Halewood. Pictures on my web.

Congratulations.

I don't understand your reasoning that a first edition will have good build quality but later means higher quality product?

I'd have thought the build quality would be the same regardless and the design flaws will present themselves in the first couple of years and hopefully be rectified either by recalls or more likely when updated with a 'facelift'.

Which colour did you go for? WARNING.

In that the production line won't be building many variations.

What will be certain it should be miles better than the 90 we bought new in 2011.

If this thing is going to sell secondhand, a catalogue of (by then) well known flaws is not going to help it.

If people like me really don't want a second hand Discovery-badged-Defender that is horribly expensive to actually own and run second-hand, the depreciation on new ones is going to be catastrophic.


The second, third and fourth-hand market has kept the price of old Defenders high for years.

I wonder how easy it will be for Dealers to shift these latest things once they are no longer new, and owners actually have to pay to buy it, and maintain it out of their own pocket?

Just to enlighten me, could you tell me what the problem is, talking about the (no doubt painful) subject of depreciation and resale value of these "things"?

To be fair, depeciation on any new car is stupid so what makes you single out a new Defender to be any different ?

Its too much a specialist vehicle to be anything else.

I like them, I have a reserved slot but still am undecided. I am not 100% convinced JLR have shot themselves in the foot with it. As well as it being at least 10K overpriced.....

Land Rover has never really struggled to sell any other product on the used market, personally I don’t see this one being any different. I think this one may do well especially with there being no proper Discovery replacement.

For me I couldn’t live with the original everyday, and at the moment I can’t justify two but one day I will have an original.

Love it, loath it who cares, yes perhaps they should’ve changed the name as they have done in the past, series - 90/110 - Defender. Either way as an LR fan I hope it does well for the brand.

anyone got the 19 inch Off road tyre details.. pretty please

in regard to the comments about the potential flaws and issues on the new Defender, many of us have owned
older gen Land Rovers, as well as the D3/D4/RRS generation over the years, there is an expectation that
with any LR product, it goes with the territory.. and i think TIm in S summed it up quite nicely on the
locked thread on why LR have done what they have done with the new model...

no doubt it cannot keep everyone happy.

I certainly would hope so, however, JLR by it's own admission is spending far too much money on warranty claims across the fleet; and only last week the RRS was nominated as the least reliable new vehicle for the 2nd year running ~ with the Disco Sport also rated poorly.

Initially I was intreasted but really struggle with some the styling attributes, the cost is in line with equivalent vehicles but have think a D5 would be a better vehicle..


Still on the fence maybe... Working towards Carry on camping!

with the Defender you still get some of the styling cues from the previous model, albeit slightly rounded
and fatter, with the D5 it looks like a total departure from the Discovery design from the D1-4 models.

I could not live with a D5 just from the styling perspective, a number of the dealers in Sydney believe the
Defender will draw the D3/4 owners who could not commit to the D5 for that same reason, that is their target
market, the Discovery pre D5 owner community (and some of us RRS owners).They still see a market for the D5
in Oz as a family vehicle / mover rather than an off road tool of choice.. Time will tell i suppose once Defenders
start hitting our shores in Mid 2020

I can assure people on here, that my Sport has done quite a significant amount of challenging off road tours in OZ,
mostly in standard form with the exception of adding bull bar, winch, rock sliders and bash plates and a set of
GG AT's the new Defender when it turns up will be thoroughly tested to the same degree, i hope to be able to report
back in about 12 months.. Whistle yet another pommie bar steward down under
