Hi all,
I bought a used one of these as a bit of a project to do up. Just looking at gathering all the fixings together and a couple of bits have me stumped - see pics. I think one is just a large, thick M12 washer. Not sure about the other though. Anyone got any clues? Many thanks in advance ![]() ![]() ![]() Andy... Edinburgh, Scotland http://24heuer.com |

I removed and refitted the (similar) Adventure steering guard when dinitrolling the chassis. From memory, I think the smaller one is effectively a sleeve, as the hole in the side bracket is larger than the diameter of the bolt and the larger one is just a large washer.
I'll try and take a photo of the bolt head tomorrow. Maybe the hole in the bracket is oversized to allow fitting to left hand drive vehicles? thanks Doublea,
I think that's exactly right and what I bought in the end. I had to stick it in the local garage to get the work done as (is usually the case with my Defender) even the simplest things turn into a major project and I just couldn't get any of the existing bolts free ![]() Anyway it's fitted and looking good ![]() Andy... Hi Andy,
Just bought one of these guards for myself and like you struggling to get a fitting kit together. I don't suppose you would have a definitive list and maybe a supplier for them please? Thanks, Nick |

Hi Nick, such a long time ago
![]() I bought all of the parts using the diagram at the top of the page as my shopping list, with the info from Doublea. Nuts, bolts and washers all came from here - https://www.accu.co.uk/en/ Probably not the cheapest, but decent quality and fast shipping. I think some of the sleeves came from eBay. Mine was well used before I got it so I also replaced the 8 nuts/bolts that hold the frame to the guard as they'd seen better days. I plastered the frame in Antirust primer and dinitrol too. I also heavily lacquered the guard both sides and it's held up pretty well. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Oh, also, if you don't have the instructions, I can email them to you or they are downloadable from the LR TOPIx site. Hope this helps, Andy... Cheers, Andy... Edinburgh, Scotland http://24heuer.com |

Hi Martin, i dont suppose you know the size of the 8 bolts that hold the alloy guard to the metal frame? From photos they look like M8 HEX head button's? i dont have the guard as yet and am trying to pre order all the nuts and bolts needed for the fitting.
cheers david |

Hi all,
I bought the same genuine LR steering guard as above second hand but it didn’t come with the fitting kit. I can get hold of the nuts and bolts from the parts diagram above no problem, however there are several bespoke bolt spacers or ‘sleeves’ shown in the diagram (Parts E, F and G) as well as the unlabelled washer and spacer ringed in red in a previous post above which I will need to get milled by a local engineering shop. The parts diagram only gives one dimension for the spacers: the lengths. Would any helpful forum member be able to advice me on the crucial external diameter of each of the spacers? I’m assuming the internal diameters of the bolts holes are just to match the relevant M10 or M12 bolts. Fitting kits are no longer available from LR or from any parts specialists I have contacted so rather short on options! All help greatly appreciated! |
