A few Tongue in cheek comments about the Beckham connection (Harper Seven? Who would call their kid that??) but considering the generally positive commentary plus just how far it 'appeared' to go off road with terrain response doing most of the work was pretty impressive. I'm not sure I'd buy one if I had the money to do so, but as a decent showcase of new technology, and a stylish package for it all to live in it's going to be a great success. Think on the initial reaction to the Rangie Sport when it first arrived on the scene. Both the wife and I would rather have our Defenders though. 1982 Wife 1984 300 Tdi 110 H/T 'Recovery' Plus 4 kids and a dog. I was at Southampton Docks today and the old chap tells me that they have already sent out shiploads of Evogues to Australia and the middle east etc...he also said he thinks they are ugly, I could hardly disagree....was nice to see a fair few Defenders waiting to be shipped off though. 2011 110 USW

Did anyone catch the Evoque feature on last weekend's Top Gear? I must admit, I was quite impressed by how far James May got on that rocky path, I didn't think it would even make it past the first few rocks. --

Yes.
The Evoque is and will be a good car I believe, plus other than not having lifting suspension it's got all the other off road toys all it's bigger brothers have, so it must be pretty capable. The FFRR is great offroad once you make an allowance for the overhangs and width. I like it. Just not sure it's a Range Rover. Probably because I can't get my head round a 2WD smaller RR as I'm a bit of a LR traditionalist. |

In TG the Evoque performed very impressively and I laughed in agreement with James May's 'designer girl's blouse' comment as that was the comparison I was trying to think of in an earlier post. I'm not sure if time will be kind to it though. I'm from Essex originally and I can see every fake tanned mutton -dressed-as-lamb bird with a few quid wanting one. It will be interesting to see the county filling up with white examples - anyone remember the XR3 convertible ? Plus c'est change...
