Give the wiper spindles a good spray of WD40 or similar after pulling the rubber seals back towards the wiper arms
Do this with with wipers running (help them along as necessary) they should free up after a good soaking and a few minutes use. 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I hate to be the doom monger but I had the same problem a couple of months ago , sprayed as Grafty says worked okay until next day then nothing. It turned out to be the motor had ceased sold, so much for maintenance free bearings. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

Very often these are the symptoms of excessive wear in the wheelboxes, in which case renewal of same is the only effective remedy.

Hi thank you all for the advice given weve had the dash off after spraying profusely with wd40 and sadly no change we've taken the wiper motor apart and there are teeth missing from the big cog
So he is going to order a new one shame as we were really hoping to fix it for tomorrow but it'll now be 2 trips with the lorry as they're taking 4 horses. Thanks again for the advice as always it's very much appreciated 👍 cheers Paul |

The wiper wheel boxes are on my to do list this coming year. They aren’t causing problems yet but by that stage they’ve caused a lot of problems.
I know they are worn though. As Blackwolf said, the wheel boxes I also think are more typical culprits than the motor and the rest of the system. You often notice many older Defenders with droopy wiper arms, that’s a sign. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |
