Tax and Mot free
I need some advice.

I`m going to see a 1969 Land Rover soon.

Its advertised as tax and mot free, on the dvla web site it states MOT no results found and " Tax due 01 September 2019"

The MOT bit i understand, as for the TAX bit I`m confused.

As the owner has not renewed the tax ( my understanding was that you needed to renew the tax anyway free or not ) and if

i buy the vehicle i would need to have new mot done so i can tax the vehicle?
Am i overthinking this ? My thinking was i could just buy it get it insured apply for the road tax on line then drive it home.
Any advice would be great.
David

That should be fine. My Series One comes up just the same on the DVLA web site. Each year I get a VED reminder and renew at zero cost all on line. It has to be insured of course. Thumbs Up 2010 XS USW

You will just need to apply for 12 months tax at £0.00 and declare it MOT exempt (assuming it is).

It would be best if the current owner did this to alleviate any concerns. It needs to be taxed, and therefore declared MOT exempt, before you can drive off in it.

The DVLA site will reflect the correct tax status but not the MOT.

If you do that you'll still need to retax when you buy it, just as you would if it wasn't zero rated.

Good point. I forgot that tax cannot be transferred.

Thank you for your advice.

Its put my mind at rest, I remember reading at some point that if the tax on a tax free vehicle has run out and you buy it
you would need to get a new mot on it.

Or I could have dreamed it or old age is creeping in.

Thank you again,

David
