I can confirm these values, when cold "rough" cylinder balance, when warm really good but with knocking.
Could it be possible - just an idea because of discussion with my mechanical - that this knocking is caused by an hydraulic lasher? I've got new ones when my head was replaced....so everything should be fine...but who knows? Has anyone of you guys a "thicker" oil than 5W30 in the car or is somebody using an additiv? Something like this: https://www.amazon.de/Liqui-Moly-1009-Hydr...B001CZODI2 Best Mario |

Hi,
@alex, I’m 100% sure that the knocking noise came after the broken injector and the replacement of the seals/plates of the other 5 injectors. Before my engine had a typical Td5 sound and runs very smooth. But now I am confused.... (After the moment that the noise came we drove more than 2000 km’s with the car.) I hardly dare to say it: The last 3 days there was no knocking sound anymore ! But end of this afternoon I heard the knocking sound again. But,by far, not as loud as in the beginning. I think it’s the best to drive with the car for a couple of weeks. I will let you know. @Mario, I have changed the engine oil from 5W40 to 10W40 both full synthetic. There was no difference between them. |

This is really crazy: I drove yesterday to the workshop where i got those injectors, 140km journy....and the knocking was really better. I left the car there so they can check by themselfs but yesterday I was not able to show them the issue |

Hang on. IIRC there was a LR bulletin some years ago that amended the rocker to injector clearance gaps. I will see if I can re-find the document later, but from memory it was something like the manuals stated tighten then back off the screw by one turn. The update suggested backing off a further half a turn to 1.5 turns of the screw.
Could this be the source of some of the knocking at the top end?! |

I am very curious about that Land Rover bulletin!
On another forum I only read once that someone turned the injectors 1.5 turn back for safety. in the meantime our Def is doing fine.... |

@Paul V.
So, knocking is away after driving some kilometers? |

Yep, that is correct Mario.
the hard, sharp knock gradually disappeared. In the meantime we drove +- 2500 km’s. And I didn’t do anything more to solve it. I know, strange but truth! I was thinking..... is it necessary to build up some carbon in the place near the plate of the injector ? (When you want to put on the new plates on the injectors you have to scratch of the carbon from the side of the injectors) My diesel specialist said no..... |
