Maybe there is another (Expensive) fault on the vehicle, and someone "disconnected" it so as not to raise the suspicion of the MoT inspector?

He bought the motor a few months ago and knew from experience that the EGR valve was playing up which he replaced. He ran a diagnostic and only found a MAF fault which was corrected and cleared. He had not noticed the light was off until it was pointed it out to him during the check. It may have been turned off because of the EGR valve. So! the question remains what should he be looking for to turn it back on? Is there a fuse in the circuit somewhere?

Look for a piece of black tape inside the instrument cluster covering the light. These lights are LED based, so no simple way to remove the "bulb". Covering or de-soldering are two simplest ways for this type of "repair". "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "BlufĂnek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo

Hi
He has taken the binnacle out but was nervous about dismantling the unit. Having trawled Utube it does look as though with a little care the binnacle can be taken apart. It seems to be the case that a motor will fail an MOT if the engine management light is on and I would think as the EGR was faulty it would have activated the light and so would have been tampered with. |

I believe it should also fail the MOT if the MIL doesn't illuminate during the lights-on test phase of the ignition-on start-up cycle, since this indicates the MIL is defective or disabled.

No hardwired pin for the EML, it's sent over CAN. Suggests the ECU isn't sending it for some reason 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Scrap the above if you believe it's been tampered with. Presumably the LED has been removed from the board or a trace on the PCB to it has been cut
If you want it inspecting/repairing I'm happy to quote to do so 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |
