Overdrive
Is an overdrive available for the Tdci? The fuel economy on mine is cacka, I am just searching out different ways I can improve the fuel economy. When its a working vehicle doing the work mine does, every penny for diesel saved helps pay the rent. I was taking to my local Landrover mechinic (indy guy) who reckons a disco commercial would get near 30mpg with two tonnes on a trailer behind. I'm getting less then 20 with about the same weight behind the 110, and thats not thrashing it.

Any other suggestions besides an overdrive? 2011 110 USW

France 2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 CSW Alpine White
I went up to 285 tyres which lifted the gearing a bit. The speedo is now correct and accurate.

My 110 csw with a twin axle Ifor tipping trailer, with two 22m crates of stone paving got 24mpg, from Biscester back over the hills to Broadway, I reckon that was almost 3.3 tonnes total. 28 mpg normally.

My mates 200tdi disco gets 25 average and 20 whilst towing.

My 200tdi 100" bitsa gives 25mpg towing and 29mpg normal driving

I wouldn't have thought an overdrive would help much on a Puma as the 6 speed box means your not using high revs anyway. John

Yer right,, i struggled to get 30 mpg on my old D3, and that's without a trailer !!!

20 mpg is about right for the 110 towing !! California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

we got a D4 commercial and it dose 22ish towing, my 110 is the same but looks better Rolling with laughter

the 110 has a BAS tune which makes a big difference towing

Yes, just sold my D3 (auto) and normal mix driving would get 24-26mpg (real, not on board comp calculations)...... I'm not expecting anything much different to the DC tdci I've just bought- woo hoo!!! Mark

Seems there would be no benefit from a Disco then (no surprise there) I understand the 30mpg was achieved with careful driving at 56mph. Which is what I try and do with the 110, but the moment you hit a hill, or a twisty road...down it goes.
I have goodyear wranglers on at the moment, I am seriously considering seeing if I can swap for a less aggressive tyre, as although they look superb, I doubt they help the mpg. 2011 110 USW

Dan I have 5 brand new, unused standard LR Michelin tyres and wheels if they are of any use. Maybe a swap if it helps ...

I get @ 10 to litre on a run empty on the highway and 11@ when fully loaded give or take 1/2 litre.
As i see it there are a number of things that you maybe able to do but they cost money.
1, Decat and centre box removal.
2,economy remap, EGR to remain shut. ( bas etc.)
3, Non aggressive low resistance tyres ( standard.)
4, replace maf sensor if failing ( see previous treads)

However going by the weight you are towing it really does not seem totally out order, what could do better ?
You also would not have the pleasure of driving a Defender. Thumbs Up

Yeah I can't see it being much better no matter what, but even one or two mpg would be nice.

On TD5's you could change the ratio's in the transfer box - I think Ashcroft did the work - not sure if the same could be done on TDCi's?

I suppose it is. Let me rephrase it, some way of increasing the gearing further. I am hoping it will start to bed in anyway soon. 2011 110 USW

Yup, six weeks old. I have seen minor improvement, just wondering how I can take it further. I saw the thread about adding two-stroke additive, but worried about warranty implications. 2011 110 USW
