Redbooster
Hi all,
Anyone had a Redbooser servo fitted?
At £500 plus fitting seems a dear do!
Or is there another cheaper option for reducing the pressure of the clutch?
Reason I need this is due to illness.
Thanks
Dave W

Search out the recent thread on the LOF clutch spring, which makes the pedal quite a lot lighter for around £30. Darren

I haven't got one fitted, but I did jump into the 'demonstrator' car at the last Scottish LR show to see what it felt like in reality - and it was just a huge difference, definitely much more akin to the clutch pedal on a smaller modern car.

For me it's probably somewhere on a "nice to have" list, if I find I've any money left after all the other Defender spending Shocked . If I was setting off for a 'grand tour' of Europe or somesuch, then I'd give it more of a priority.

This is coming from someon who doesn't really have any issues using the normal clutch, even in town traffic - just that the difference on the demonstrator was so significant it has to be worth considering.

Would there be someone close by with one fitted that you could try? That's really the only way you'll be able to properly judge for yourself whether it's worth the money for you. Donald

The fitting of a Redbooster was featured in a LRO magazine a while back, might be worth checking it out. Jeff

Yes I've seen the ad on the back page of the LRI mag. Ive decided to go with the LOF spring kit and see if it makes it easier for me to use.
I've had, and still have bad problems with scyatica! so hopefully this will help.
For thirty quid it's worth a shot, I'll just have to get my mechanical friend to come and do it!
Thanks all for the help.
It's a great club/Web page.
Must meet up with some some of you!

Would be interested to know how you get on fitting the spring from LOF? I bought a new clutch from LOF and the spring - the machanics that changed the clutch struggled to fit the spring and gave up in the end!! Apparently you end to be an octopus with very strong hands to fit it........

Fitted the LOF spring a while back. Best value mod I've ever done. Takes a lot of the force off the clutch. Mine's a TDCI and it's great, the spring apparently works even better on earlier models. You just need some really strong cable ties or you'll swear a lot. Very Happy

Do not believe it fits earlier pedals, only the later ‘flat bar’ type. 80" 1948

Sorry as I suppose this is changing the thread a lot, as it was about Redbooster originally

From their website:

The LOF POWERspring will fit Defender models 300TDI, TD5 and also TDCI PUMA vehicles.

In order to double check that it will fit, simply take a look at your clutch pedal:

If the clutch pedal arm is a flat sheet of steel in terms of profile – IT FITS!
If the clutch pedal arm is a U shaped formed steel profile, unfortunately it wont fit, but there is a solution! Simply remove the older 200TDI style pedal box (6 bolts in the footwell) and refit with the later style pedal box – Part number SKB500280 (sold separately
