what's peoples view?

Surely they can just remove the swivel some how?

Just looked and £313 from optimill for it all.

It’s another security layer, easy to fit takes seconds, I very pleased with mine Thumbs Up I’m sure given time the orange swivel housing could be removed however that all takes time. They have been very popular security lawyer here on the forum Thumbs Up 2015 HT XS 90

Sadly you can take them off in a couple of second too, with £10 worth of hardware from eBay.

In my view they’re a waste of money, as the minute the crooks see it they’ll switch their attack to towing the vehicle away instead. The weak point is also the steering linkage. Your £300 shiny boss is easily overcome by removing a split pin and a castellated nut.

Excellent, the more folk who follow this advice the better! There'll be more Defenders that are a little bit easier to steal than mine. Thumbs Up

It’s one extra layer of security. It’s certainly not full proof, but it’s extra hassle for the scum.
Just don’t rely on it on its own👍🏻 2002 td5 90 county hardtop

Interesting hearing view points.

We have a disclok on ours plus a pedal lock which are a good visual deterrent. Think ill stick with theses plus the other bits and save the £300.

Plus don't have to carry the wheel about!

As ever if they want it they will get it, heard about a Camel edition with bolllards and backup up tight to a wall. Just pick it up with a hiab.

Ill keep saving for retired Gurkha to watch her...… nothing gets past those boys!

Whatever security you put on is never foolproof, disclock maybe gives you a minute, pedal lock and I have one another minute or two but noisier to remove,

why would you carry the wheel about with you if worried padlock in the Defender I leave mine on the passenger seat.

It’s all about layers and deterrents why steal yours if there is an easier one to take, £300 is a lot probably about an insurance excess so no gains there except you “may” still have your Defender.

The best deterrent by far for criminals to prevent reduce theft...... simple.......Cut their hands off. 2015 HT XS 90

Trust me.. they already know. It’s naive to think otherwise. There is a strong ‘community’ in that line of work, and information sharing is a key part of it. Do enough digging on the right parts of the internet and you’ll find it.

Sad to say, there are also much quicker and quieter methods of achieving the same result.

Layers, layers, and more layers. The only sensible approach. Just make it take as long as you possibly can.

You still shouldn’t talk about it, you could be responsible for the theft of someone else’s defender or even your own

Come on you don't really believe that do you?

There is always a workaround to any security device, and the crooks know them all. It's all about creating obstacles and delaying attempts, buying time in the hope of interruption. > 110 XS Double Cab

Conversely by talking about it (at least in general terms) you may save someone's Defender from theft. How many owners k here have fitted extra security as a result of discussions on here? Many, I'll wager.

By the way, you shouldn't perpetuate the myth that wolves are evil, in most respects wolf social society is more supportive and caring than humans are now! Rolling with laughter

I’m not saying they are impenetrable but hinting that they have weaknesses reduces the obstacle.

In some cases a bit of unfamiliar kit may actually be so foreign to a thief they might have to take a step back and think about how they’re going to crack it.

If you’re posting about what features a bit of security has and how you can defeat it then you are diminishing other peoples security. I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/
