The newer G-Class is not the newest...But (apart from the Defender) they all bear a passing resemblence to the original model. Perhaps because a Series 1 is not a Defender?

The old Vitara and the Land Rover are the odd one out.

The series 1 looks fantastic and created the legend, where as the new Pretender looks hideous.

Nevermind the Land Rover but I think all other manufacturers in that lineup did a really good job bringing their respective cars into the future. None of them would need a badge or a name, they are immediately recognisable.
Land Rover only trade on a name in the case of the Defender. |

Very hard to find a photo of the latest G-Wagen with the original, but its still close. Click image to enlarge And not a great surprise that LR haven't released a photo of the most recent Puma next to the New Defender. Indeed, imagine the ND being added to this line-up. Just nothing that ties the new one to these.... As dandastic says, the others are recognisable (even to someone like my wife!). So the odd one out is the Vitara sitting next to an old Land Rover. Zed: LR will find you.
PS, doesn't that original Mini look absolutely fantastic? Now left. |

That's because the new Defender is a really a new discovery, which is what it should be called. It's also fairly fat now looking at the dimensions, no good for narrow country roads/greenlanes like the old one was which should be it's natural habitat...
Oh hang on the new ones habitat will be city ring roads The classic mini is very nice, I used to have a 1996 Rover mini cooper sportpack years ago, never had any interest in the Bini! |

I think there is something fishy going on with these photos. The new 90 is 4.6m long, not including the spare wheel, essentially same as the old 110. The 80" is over 1.2m shorter, yet they appear to be very similar in size in this photo.
Perhaps more telling and not allowing for perspective, the 80" is 1.5m wide versus 2.1m and there isn't 600mm difference in width between the two juding by the width of the track they are on. The new 90 is 40% wider. |

It's been photoshopped to make the new 90 appear a lot smaller than it actually is. Click image to enlarge |

I'm fairly sure the New Defender/Series photos are all photoshop? James

Strange that the marketing team, despite all the efforts with endless spy-shots, glamourous movie-quality videos filmed across the world, celebrity publicity and a monumental Frankfurt launch, they didn't have the confidence to show the 90 for what it actually is (dimension wise) or had the confidence to show one alongside the outgoing 'icon', the Puma. In both cases it's presumably because it will go to highlight just how different the Discfender is to its predecessor(s). Monsieur Le Grenadier
