I am also generally uneasy about the way in which the new Defender, along with all other similar new vehicles, is fully capable of sending comprehensive telemetry data to just about anyone all the time. Although I have nothing to hide, I really don't want every detail of every journey logged. I distrust the way that manufacturers are so reluctant to let customers know the extent of the data harvesting they they can, and possibly do, do, but it certainly goes (or can go) down to things like the number (and mass) of people in the vehicle, and whether they're wearing seat belts, as well as the more expected speeds etc. In the fullness of time it will inevitably lead to road pricing and so on, but a little more transparency would be welcome. |

You could always get a very small dog, one that fits in the external "lunchbox". |

Re the software updates over the air, if you park it up for a couple of weeks whilst on holiday and then return to it, do you need to wait 20 minutes whilst it shuts down, pulls down the updates and reboots 😂

Last evening I went back through my collection of motoring magazines to the 2011 issues and am surprised nobody here has commented on the similarities to much derided DC100. From the bonnet leading edge back hardly anything is changed, forward of it the angle of the grille has been made more vertical and the headlight shape is slightly changed............
I am happy with the new car in most respects except that it is no longer a work-a-day utility vehicle which was part of the appeal of Defender Classic, you didn’t mind throwing the garden rubbish into the rear or putting a muddy mountain bike inside instead of on the roof - won’t happen with the new one. Two criticisms from me - I HATE wing top checker plate, on corners along sills no issue but it looks like I have to have something even worse on DC100 v2 - totally useless stick on plastic “checkerplate-a-like” that you cannot even stand on! With no option to not have it.) in these days of car theft who on this earth thought it was a great idea to have a fabric sunroof? It will interesting to see how insurance companies treat that weakness. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

The imitation checker plated on the wing mirrors made me smile.

Tim, there is a certain longtime contributor on here whom I had a 'discussion' with (friendly) about three years ago. I tried pointing out to him that the new Defender was simply not going to be a million miles away from the DC100 (Land Rover say it is nothing to do with the DC100). He was quite adamant that it wouldn't be. He's still here, but I didn't want to re-hash our discussion, pointing out to him the similarities in design. I liked the DC100, and I think LR really missed the boat. Now left.

Agreed. I hate the look of the 90, but the 110 is growing on me. I can’t afford anymore to replace my 60 plate full-fat RR with a like for like, but the lower specced Defender may actually be a good compromise and it very much reminds me of the Disco 4 we used to have. |

Checker plate??
perhaps they should have put some nail boards on there as well. So when the yummy mummies are waiting for offspring to put their school bags in the boot they can sand their nails down too. ![]() Last edited by williamthedog on 11th Sep 2019 8:37am. Edited 1 time in total |

The design of that Freelander front end actually looks cleaner to me. Progress eh! |
