Defenders will roll away even with the handbrake on if one a wheel looses its traction unless you have the Diff lock engaged or its in gear. (Another reason they need to be chocked when they are jacked up)

When i lived in the mountains you had to be very careful where to park them, and always leave them in gear.

Im not sure the exact mechanics behind it, but it does happen.

However yours pronbably wasnt parked somewhere very slippery, so sounds like a fault.

I can't see you getting far unless there is a defect to a part somewhere- they will otherwise just say you didn't put the handbrake on properly. Also like old cars, always leave it in gear and turn the steering wheel so that if it does roll it will try to go up the curb (which will more than likely stop it).

Good luck Smile

My mates rolled away and hit a car and LR denied it was faulty but the handbrake was fully on and i reckon it jumped over the cam and released as it was way off the adjustment, it was 6 months old. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..
