Well, we went on our trip (which was lovely, see small trip report here: https://www.defender2.net/forum/post790063.html#790063) and indeed we had no issues at all with the ferry.

Granted, the road leading to the ferry port (on the French side) was lined with 4m tall fences for the last 3 km or so, and customs takes quite some time to get through. We saw several cars being checked.

(Not ours thankfully, or I would have had to surrender that cute little illegal african girl which I had planned to make do our dishes and laundry while we were staying in our cabin without electricity Rolling with laughter )

Traveling back from the UK to France was a different matter all together: we were all set with our passports handy etc etc., but hardly anyone from customs even glanced at us. So apparently demand to leave the UK for France is not so great... Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000

We travel with our dog regularly, and noone cares you are taking it out of the country, no checks at all on the Tunnel. On the way back though , plenty of scrutiny, I've seen people refused at the French terminal a few times for various pet paperwork issues. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I use ferry from Europoort to Hull - much more pleasant experience than the channel crossings 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper

How long does that crossing take? Calais - Dover is 90 minutes... Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000

Came back through the tunnel last week. No sign of anything on either side. Was very quiet.
