Hi Dan
I'm new to this site,as you can see you're the first person I've sent a message too. I see you work at Duckworths,is that the place just before Rimmer Bros or after?.. I have a few questions you may be able to help me out with in regards to my 02 Defender td5 15P... I'll get straight to the point, the engine has blown on me,so I'm searching for a complete replacement engine, the only thing that is any good is the Alternator which was new 8mth ago.My local garage who have stripped it down have told me there is nothing worth keeping because it would be contaminated with oil etc, which is fair enough. While my local engineering firm said scrap it!. Been advised to stay well clear of flea-Bay & general sites that sell anything from paper bags to a week house exchange in Portugal or have the words, Ads,tree,up or Free in the tittle. Once my old engine was out, would the engine you are advertising fit straight in,reconnect the prop with nothing else to add or would I then need all the auxiliary bit to complete ie starter motor, pumps, filters etc?.. I think I know what you are going to say,...stick to searching for a td5 engine replacement. Which leads me to my next question..I've searched on alot of different sites the past month or so & found nothing that's worth buying or putting in,if it has Defender in front of it,the price doubles!..So I'm thinking my cheapest, safest & best option is to find an old Discovery with low mileage & swap it over...S could you please tell me,is this at all possible to do & is/are there anything for me to watch out or be aware of before I go out & buy a discovery?. With regards Andrew... |

This may or may not be something for Dan to answer, you may be best posting in the td5 section. Here's a couple of posts that may help you: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic62067...+discovery https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic63567...+discovery https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic63811...+discovery Good luck, and welcome to DEF2 Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

You might want to speak to Paul McGill at Discovery2 Parts he has engines and provides warranty
As far as converting to a 6 speed Puma box you will need the adapter kit from Motor and Diesel near Peterborough Hope this helsp 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid) 2002 90 TD5 Hardtop (Sully) Sold 1998 300TDi D1 (Billy) Sold |

Thanks for all your help I really appreciate all the links you've left & your time to help. I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I do enjoy tinkering getting my hands dirty & at least give it a go at fixing or fitting small parts to 90,but that's about my limit, not to mention you need the space to do it too,so I very much doubt I can return your help or give you advice on anything mechanical, but I am in the building trade,so any problems or issues you may want guidance on,don't hesitate to ask...I might not know the answer, but at least ask!..cheers again & fingers crossed I sort this out soon,as I miss my 90.... kind regards And.. |

Cheers Andrew
Interesting...if you wanted Transmission, the name you would hear most would be "Ashcroft". But for Engines there's not a most-obvious go-to (to me at least). There's some incredibly skilled chaps on here who know more than I ever will in this area (probably the ones who work with Defenders on a day-to-day basis).
