It's been a while since we returned home, and we had a great time! Our little cabin turned out to be located right at the edge of the Cheddar Gorge and had a stunning view!

we could actually walk to the Cheddar Gorge (6mi?) by following the path that leads through the V-shaped dip in the hillside you see on the left in the photo above.

We were really lucky with the weather, most of the days we could have breakfast comfortably outside in a T-shirt, and we could stay outside until after the BBQ when it became a bit more chilly. But then we fired up some logs in the fire pit for marsmallows so the kids had a blast!

We visited the SS Great Britain (which I consider one of the highlights of the trip!), went on drives to the beach (Weston super mare etc), went on hikes in the Mendips (in which we were located), we visited the caves in Cheddar, visited Bath, had dinner + beer in the pub etc etc. We had a great time and I am sure we will visit the UK again in the future!

Ooooh I forgot: we went across that suspension bridge in Bristol too!

Obviously - being Dutch - I was not amused they charged 1,- for it... Rolling with laughter Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000

Depending on how far SW of Bristol you are, but a trip out on the steam train to Minehead would be a good day out. Starts at Bishops Lydiard. Plenty of stops along the way to get out, visit the beach and eat ice cream 110 D250 SE HT

Well, considering we are back in NL, I would say we're several hundreds of miles away from Bristol Laughing

But you're right: steam train is a fun ride. I don't recall the name, but we did go for a ride on one of those and it was nice. It goes back and forth on about a 4 mi stretch of tracks IIRC.I am sure there are many more nice things we have done during our bolidays that I forgot to mention, but for sure we had a great time!

Ah, I found a photo:

That'll teach me to start looking at the dates on posts. The railway I was referring to is the longest privately owned in the UK. A great day out. 110 D250 SE HT

Haha, no worries! Thanks for your suggestion, sounds like a good ride along the coast! If it doesn't help me, it may be of help to others that find this thread whilst planning their holidays Thumbs Up Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000
