27.5 seems to be the best compromise. A few mates have tried 29s and found them too numb and migrated to 27.5 in the last year or so and they handle the terrain better than the 26 without the drawbacks of the 29s.

I'm still on 26 having tried a 29 briefly and not liked it, need to borrow a 27.5 at some point to see how I get on with it. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

slightly off topic.

anyone tell me the pros / cons of ceramic vs steel BB30 bottom bracket bearing.
£100 for two bearings (ceramic) strikes me as a wee bit steep.

They spin forever...... but a bit useless on a bb. Good for cafe bragging. (Just lie and save dosh).

interesting.

spin forever as in never wear out or low friction?

why useless on a bb ?

I notice Hope do s/s and ceramic - both a similar price. would s/s be the way to go for a bb set up?

many thanks

Just less friction, so less wear, spins more freely.

Can’t go wrong with Hope ss.

Funny this has come up as I’m in the market for a new bike. My hardtail now 9 years old is 26 and it seems the only options for a new full sus are 29 or 27.5. I’m leaning towards the 27.5 route to be more playful? I used to have a hard tail jump bike which I opted for 24’s instead of 26’s to make it more chuckable. I’ve been watching various YouTube reviews and the general argument is that for outright speed the 29ers are faster but if you’re not racing the 27.5’s are a bit more fun. It’s a shame 26’s are becoming extinct... maybe I need to get with the times.

hmmm - outright speed.
I've yet to record quicker times off road with the 29er over the 26. that said all the racing is on 29s and they've improved times over the 26's.
I am however quicker on the road / road hills on the 29.

horses for courses I guess?
