Give it a few years and the roof rack will be the only thing left

I think the point is that it can support unusually long objects!

Perhaps, Sulisuli you should buy one. Just think of all the goodies you could buy for your defender and carry back with that rack !!!

Could it be for two roof tents (although the front supports don’t look like they would handle much weight) Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

It looked very much like a working vehicle so I'm sure there's some particular need for the large rack. There was no indication what, though. Darren

I've seen similar on a Defender used by a Tipi supplier, to allow the poles to be carried with equal front and rear overhang.

Saw it again this morning but no sign of anybody around to ask about it. It's parked in the harbour though, so could be somebody involved with the fishing boats or maybe the boat yard that's there.

I have seen these racks used for thatchers for carrying their materials, as well as the national rowing team who had one to carry their oars, while towing the trailer of boats.
This is one of Brownchurches’ where minimal weight is on the roof. We had a brownchurch rack on the last 3 defenders and it was still in great shape after over 20 yrs use ...
