Hi all,
Thanks so much for the responses. The shocks were replaced at the same time with Bilstein B6s (yes, I'm one of those people who's done these mods to a Land Rover - but a recent change of jobs now means it's my daily commuter). The Alive website states they're for a Td5, but the nice chap from the sales department says mounting them should not be an issue at all for a 300tdi and that the website needs updating - and that they definitely are not supplied handed. I'll give them another call tomorrow to double check, but the fact that my 90 would have come from the factory with side-specific springs would kind of suggest that regardless of what aftermarket springs I now put on it, this should still be the case with them. Does anyone here know if simply adding a spacer/isolator to front & rear driver's side would be a safe long term solution? *Edit* Something along the lines of these: https://www.paddockspares.com/25mm-alumini...-rear.html As ever, cheers all, Alf |

So I phoned Alive today. Nice chap, informed me that a few people have bought these springs to put on a 300tdi, but they have never heard back from regarding issues with the car not sitting level. They also unfortunately at this stage do not produce handed springs of any type, so any leaning should can only be remedied with spacers or isolators. I reckon this is the route I'll be going down - I brimmed the tank today, jumped in and just looking across the bonnet & out the rear window (using screen heater element as sort of a spirit level) I could clearly see a lean.
Without me in it, it leans to the driver's side by 10mm front & back, so not the end of the world, but enough to notice. I've yet to have someone measure with a driver in also, but it definitely drops somewhere in the region of a further 20mm. 1996 Defender 90 300Tdi |
