Just a thought..... bearing mind I've stared at a PC screen from about 8am to 6pm today........what other vehicle makes you want to sit at a PC screen at 11pm on a Friday evening posting reasons why you love it....?????

Another one: the Defender reminds you that once upon a time there were things easy, simple, rugged and absolutely fit for purpose. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

Defenders don't have faults, they have personality traits! That's it for me - they have soul, character, look great and frankly will just do stuff the average Euro box will never be able to do. Classic design. She's not old...just older |

I like them as a vehicle full stop, I fit in the drivers seat comfortably (6 ft 3, i really dint see why people complain about lack of space for the taller gentleman) I can drive 300 miles in it and not need 10 minutes to straighten my back out, and it's ultimately just cool.
The other thing I've found with ones I've owned and run for a long time is they have a real charachter about them, you might even say a soul. It's not exclusively defenders, my old RRC, and the Disco the wife and I are currently using have a real character about them. I try not to like the Disco, but it's really grown on me. Interestingly I don't have as much of a bond with the Tdi 110. I was however rather cut up about having to sell my old V8 110 CSW, that was a real character. The best thing is we got rid of her VW Sharan, and bought it back. It's now undergoing a renovation to become the family car, and both me and the wife (who wasn't keen on it when I met her) are both really excited about it. You don't get that with a Toyota, and that's the brilliant thing about a Defender. 1982 Wife 1984 300 Tdi 110 H/T 'Recovery' Plus 4 kids and a dog. I love my Rover because I am a few sandwiches short of a picnic- I haven't seen it for 4 weeks now and having withdrawal symptoms!... 1 more week to push!!!!!
Another thing I like about it is the way it makes other people feel. I would say 80% of the people I have met have a memory of a Land Rover, whether it is a safari to a clapped out series that their granddad had. It fills peoples hearts with warm fuzzy feelings- especially owners!! I have traveled all over Europe in mine and stayed in both £10 a night camp sites and £300 a night hotels and the Land Rover looked as comfortable in a car park surrounded by Ferraris as it did in a field with a tent next to it. I don't now of many other cars that can do that. Glyn   |

Ever since I was around 7 years old. I always had a thing for these, them there Land Rovers. there look, the high centre of gravity, the diffs and axles sitting under the body, they just fascinated me. The body is so straight and practical, it can never be improved as it has already achieved that! The guys who stripped down a broken down estate ford gpw jeep and blended it with a biger engine, better gears and a lighter body really outdone themselves and everyone else for that matter. (Toyota who).
Yer, I have had these jap 4x4s but nothing comes close.NoTHING comes close to the experience and enjoyment you get when driving these respected vehicles. Someone here said and its true, o my dad use to have a Land Rover, and he's right. I get that as well. My Puma 110 (The Big Boy) so the wife says, Is one of the best things thats happend to us.  |

Fits all our clobber in, great visibility for the kids, tows our boat without noticing, the off road ability is hard to beat without modding, the look great, everyone loves them, the foibles are overcome by the charm and character, they haven't followed the bhp race everyone else has jumped on, they have 70s switchgear and wing mirrors, parts of them are near industrial, they don't try too hard like most "SUVs" do, fellow drivers wave at you, the heated seats are lush after a Winter surf!! Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.
