I don't know what to reply. Because I wanted one despite this. But then all the reasons that might put Mr & Mrs Mitsubishi Shogun off attract me to it.

I suppose my answer would be: ...because of it's timelessness, strength and originality.

Just to look at it!

I regularly find myself standing in the yard just looking at it from different angles. And then I suddenly realise and think 'oh dear, this is not good!'

One of the very few vehicles that looks superb from just about any angle, even from underneath! Love it. Thumbs Up

for me its proper driving, you have to work at, what fun, and not like every other vehicle on the road, instantly recognizable and how many other motors are like that, the`re `marmite` you either love em or hate em Very Happy LIFE`S TOO SHORT TO DRIVE A BORING VEHICLE

I buy them because I've had them for years and I'm a creature of habit. I know where I stand with them and know what to expect of them. I've got so used to them so know where everything is. Despite the subtle changes over the years everything feels just so familiar and so falls nicely to hand .... just like my wife Rolling with laughter Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.
Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW.

Glad it's not just me then ... thought i was a bit 'strange' Whistle Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

There may be a simple reason - they are a relief from all the madness around us and remind that things don't have to be always faster-higher-richer. Sometimes the easy things are the good ones. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

I only bought one as it was the same colour as the wife's D3 and I could save on touch up paint. Whistle

And the very fact it is the same colour as the D3 and that fecks the wife off immensely (we had the D3 first) means that it's the best thing I've ever purchased.

My old D1 (sold) and the wifes D3 overall for what we want and need are far better all round vehicles in every way except one...... They're not a Defender. Bow down

Totally irrational and I love it! Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless.

Today I :
drove about 20 miles through the country lanes in a very nice very fast convertible with the roof down - loved it.
drove down town and around a bit in the FL 1 - great family car - really like it, but a little cramped for me.
just been out in the Puma and even tho the 'vert is a fantastic drive I had that inane smile on my face when i was in the Puma. there is nothing like it. Bow down Bow down

i am both lucky and a real sad git i suppose Confused BM52
