The figure of 75 kg is often stated as the offical maximum roof load for a Defender but I have not seen any Land Rover documentation saying this. The current (2007) Defender Owner's Handbook (Publication Part No. LRL100251801) says the maximum is 150 kg including the weight of the rack. The Handbook also says "driving off-road with a loaded roof rack is not recommended". It is emphasised that this is particularly so when traversing side slopes and in such situations roof racks should be unloaded!

I survived 100 km today with the 600 kgs on the rack - but the rack got a bit out of shape......Next time I think I will limit myself to 400 kgs. The car handles pretty far from perfect with that much load on the roof......

Thats because it isnt any more but used to be - many people (including on here) stage that 75kg is the max load - but as i have said, like you, in the past it isnt. The book figure on road IS what you state - off road well thats different. Either way i wouldnt put much more than that there, certainly not 600kgs - CRJ are you sure you arent talking gramms??!! I am pretty sure about the weight...85 jatoba planks with a density of 850 kgs m3. The car could handle it, but as I said I will limit myself a little - although it is a Land Rover 88 Ser. 3 1980 -sold Puma 130 - 08- sold 90 200tdi 1991 - sold 88 Ser. 3 1977 200 TDI 110 CC 2003 |
