2014 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 HT Fuji White
I've taken my wheels and tyres ready to have the rims painted and the tyres fitted this afternoon, but although I've used them before, the place hasn't exactly inspired confidence.

I want the wheels to be Fuji white, but after being told 'they'd look good in black' (maybe, but I want them Fuji white!) the firm seem to think it's going to be difficult to avoid it yellowing in their ovens. I've told them if they can't do it, I'll have them back and try elsewhere, but I'm waiting to see what happens.

I wonder how LR painted their Wolfs originally?

I was thinking about having my Wolf wheels painted white, but I just discovered the 8J wheels from Nakatanenga are finally available. Would mean my 235 tires look sh!t on those resulting in new tires as well? Choices... Still tempting. Whistle

The firm rang me yesterday to say they needed my paint code as they are going to get the rims sprayed with two pack so they will exactly match the rest of the van.

Apparently, they only have one 'standard' white with their powder coating process which is too creamy once it's been baked, but by painting them (onto a powder coated primer), they'll be right.

As I was originally going to get them painted in any case, I'm happy with this.

I'll post some photos when I get them back, hopefully next week sometime.

Anything from 265mm to 295mm if you work of BFG recommended rim widths. I bet they'd look good with 285s.

I should get my wheels back from painting and tyre fitting today.

I'll update this in a bit if it works out (I have a feeling there will be "complications"....)

I’m thinking the same, although I have a feeling 265 would be the better size for me.

Well, I've got four of them back, but there was a slight issue with the paint on the other one so they're having another go at that. I think it will be another week before I can post any photos now I'm afraid.

By gum they do look good though (perfect Fuji white paint match and shiny - phew!)

PS - no offence at all intended, but how about starting a separate 'Nakatanenga 8J wheel' thread please chaps? The info on them will doubtless be very useful, but it's surely likely to get lost in future in a thread headed 'Wolf wheels - what tyre size?'.

I finally started using the van with the Wolfs yesterday and my immediate impression is that the 235/85/R16s are a bit larger overall diameter than the 750/R16s which has had a slight effect on the gearing. I seemed to need to change down a bit more than previously.

Interestingly, the width of the actual tread is at most only about 1/4" wider on the 235s than the 750s. The width over the sidewalls is a lot more, but I was surprised about this. On reflection, I'd have taken the earlier good advice in this topic, saved myself £500 and had my 750s put on the rims.

I'll try to get a photo up later.

On paper, 235/85's and actually slightly smaller than 7.50's although it's so close that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Your need to change down more is probably due to the increased rolling resistance rather than gearing.

Look forward to the pictures. Darren

By my reckoning a 235/85 is actually about 3/8" taller in section than a 7.50, so the overall diameter of a 235/85 would nominally be 0.72" larger. However this is insignificant in real terms, and the amount of wear, the tread pattern etc., is likely to make more difference.

Ah, you're right! I was thinking of the difference between a 235/85 and a 265/75 Rolling Eyes Darren

Thanks chaps. Having stood one of each wheel next to each other before I fitted them, I can confirm the 235s are definitely a slightly larger overall diameter than the 7.50s, but as I said above, there's hardly any difference in the width of the tread itself.
