I did wonder if the diesel was deteriorating in the tank giving off the smell you describe but given the mileage you do that can’t be the case.
Is it the rubber filler hose that is giving off the odour? 2015 HT XS 90 2008 SVX 90 2000 XS TD5 90 |

I'm not really sure, its hard to tell but it seems like its coming from the optimil fuel cap, that has a rubber oring in it so maybe its that, but whenever I take it off the smell lingers on my fingers shortly after aswell Obviously not the best thing for fingers to smell like

my best guess would be you refueled using biodiesel (blend of diesel with FAME) derived from UCO - short for used cooking oil. In the land of fish and chips I would assume that will be fishy....
It is well known that FAME has a tendency to affect parts made out of polymers, rubbers etc. |

Oh! dear but worth giving you the advice
It sounds as if you are suffering from Trimethylaminuria ('fish odour syndrome') Trimethylaminuria (TMAU) is an uncommon condition that causes an unpleasant, fishy smell. It's also called "fish odour syndrome". There's currently no cure. Symptoms of trimethylaminuria Trimethylaminuria symptoms can be present from birth, but they may not start until later in life The only symptom is an unpleasant smell, typically of rotting fish Things that can make it worse include: sweating stress certain foods – such as eggs and beans The NHS advises seeing a GP if you notice a strong, unpleasant smell that doesn't go away.
