13pin Towing Socket
newly purchased 2016 Defender 90 has never had a tow bar on any electrics installed from new..........

do they have any 'easy install' on board wiring to install a plug N play harness to or is it a case of the old school piggy back wiring???

will need to install the newer style 13pin EU type socket due to towing requirements

Should be P&P if you buy the original LR harness....

Here the schematics and the connector C0718 is present on the car (rear RH wheelarc, under the splash guard, same as the lower rear RH lights)

Hi - plug-in for 13 pin electrics only goes as far a lights/indicators. It gives you the equivalent of the black 12N 7 pin plug. The rest of the electrics (i.e. the functionality of the old 7-pin 12S connector) including permanent and switched lives, split charge relay and reversing light takes a bit more faffing.

It’s all well documented in the genuine LR electrics fitting kit, and many have taken the feeds for these from the rear of the vehicle. I still haven’t got around to fitting the ‘12S’ part of mine.

The genuine kit LR005919 for a 2012 Puma has a really well sealed 13 pin plug that hasn’t given any issues compared to other vehicles that have had generic ones fitted by local tow bar places

FWIW I fitted the 13 pin socket in the rear crossmember (with rivinuts). It’s then only a few bolts to take off the towbar and the electrics stay put. Also less chance of damage.

Good luck 2012 110 XS SW Orkney Grey

Cheers for the extra info, have just done the relay / extra wiring on a different vehicle so not phased by that side

Only the ignition feed for the socket is a “faff” involving the relay. Everything else is done by plugging in.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top
