Hello, I have replaced EGR a while ago and have the faulty one laying around.
Is it possible to rework faulty EGR to have it as a spare backup part? I am not thinking about complete repair, rather a spare part that would allow me to reach home. Cheers! Janusz Janusz www.yahodeville.com |

just been doing some research as mine's nit making the usual sound (chucka chucka chucka) on switch off. It'ds still working but not as well as normal.
Some other useful posts on here https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40101.html The Transit parts seem to be transferable too, but no cost advantage I can see... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Just replaced mine even though it's turned off via the ECU. I didn't realise it was slightly open due to the driven cog on the electric motor shearing off. No more black smoke and my flat spot has disappeared too. Should hove done it years ago. 130 crew cab

mine's been turned off by the BAS remap since 2010, but after standing for 7 months, there is now a screeching noise when I switch off the engine.
the indie reckons it's the EGR, so maybe it's time to remove the hardware as well. -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

I'd be very surprised if the screeching noise is the EGR.
You could try simply unplugging the EGR valve and seeing if it still happens. |

that's what I thought, to me it sounded more like an electronic/electrical screech, but the indie was adamant it's the EGR... --

My one has started being very noisy on its cleaning cycle. Just started at exactly 75000 miles.
Is this an option? Well, won’t let me put pic on. But it is a ego simulator kit. Anyone tried one? Kev |

On shutdown the EGR valve does a cleaning cycle. Usually left active even if the actual motoring if the egr is disabled during driving.
When the gears get jammed the motor still try’s to do this cleaning cycle. Hence the screech you hear. I’d almost guarantee it being your EGR. [/list] 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html Instagram - @r22oyp Roy |

Some months ago, when driving along with the window open, I heard a strange squeak/screech. Didn't happen very often initially, but the frequency increased, typically when changing up from first to second. I also noticed a dead spot appearing at the same time, especially when the engine was warm. Over the last few weeks it got progressively worse and so yesterday I had the valve renewed. What a difference! It's like a different vehicle with smoother and freer acceleration. I can only assume that the original valve had been sticking open but I've retrieved it and will carry out a post mortem when I get five minutes.
Incidentally, I did consider having it mapped shut but my conscience got the better of me. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |
