I found this engineer's air suspension mod on his Disco 1 interesting, particularly his reasons for doing it.
Reliability & costs aside, hard to argue against air being the way to go (on the new Defender):

Thsi has appeared on the series website, a snapshot of the dash of the test vehicle giving a hint of the new shape.

If LR were really trying to keep its' shape a secret they're doing a rubbish job of it. They should just reveal the damn thing and be done with it.

The cynic in me can't help but think this leak, leak, drip, drip approach was there plan all along, though. Probably dreamt up by a twelve year old marketing exec Rolling Eyes Darren

Is it just me or does anyone else think there looks to be a serious lack of space in the back of the 110 mules/mock ups?

note the steel pipe coming out of the bottom of the rear diff of the coil-sprung version, which is not present on the air-sprung version - could be a manual air locker vs e-diff? --

Possibly but bearing in mind the absurdly vulnerable location I suspect it is for data logging on the mule.

It'd last seconds off road.

Hate the gear selector position and all the buttons next to it look too fussy. Why did they not just copy the centre consol from the Discovery 5? In my eyes that looks nicer and as they will be expecting D5 owners to jump ship to the new Defender then to me that would make sense.

Each to their own but to me it screams Fiat Multipla.

Agree with other comments, this drip feeding without seeing any true Defender testing is getting boring now.

I like the fact it’s got an e-stop! I wonder if that makes it into the final cut!!

In many ways it reminds me of the original Freelander, and I think I like it about as little.

I'm sure it will be a good and popular vehicle but I am convinced that the real Defender, and with it the whole ethos on which Land Rover was predicated, is dead. Bring on the Bollinger B1.

What I don't see in the interior photo is the dial for Terrain Response - could it be it's now via the steering wheel control for quicker selection? Or could it be the button just below the one labelled 'Max'.

The shifter is also a bit weird, why didn't they just use the one from the RRS?

And I don't see paddles, so not that great for quick manual shifts when off-road. --

Thats how I understand it. It looks like the 2 dials set temperature by default, and then you would press the terrain response button and the left hand dial becomes the selector, and similarly, press the fan button and the right hand dial becomes the fan speed control.

I suppose that kind of makes sense in terms of simplifying things. Nowadays with the aircon systems, you mainly just set the temp you want and let the auto system do the thinking about it. Certainly thats what I use most in the last few LR's I've had. Its rare that you adjust the fan speed.

Likewise, lets be honest, its rare that you adjust the terrain setting. Yes, you might do it as you go from road to off road, but thats once and then you leave it till you next need to change it - which might be ages. So you have that setting behind a button-press then adjust movement is not really much of a delay. -------------------------------
I miss my V8's....

Ah, thanks fisha, that makes perfect sense.

I like it that way, fewer buttons/dials to clutter the dash --
