If you're passing through Austria then the Grossglockner High Alpine Road is rather spectacular and Neuschwanstein Castle (of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang fame) is south west of Munich. Darren

Have a great trip, but before you go make sure that your car insurance includes cover for Bosnia and Serbia. Neither of these countries are part of the EU and therefore are not automatically included on most UK car policies.
Try to include the drive from Mostar to Sarajevo (Bosnia) it really is spectacular |

Good point, Adrian Flux will cover us for Serbia but Bosnia will have to be local insurance.

Well done for doing your homework in advance, I wasn't so well organised!
You may be aware that not all border entries into Bosnia have the facility to buy local insurance. We were fortunate that the most convenient one for our route (Dubrovnic to Mostar via the border post at Doljani/Metkovic) did. The cost was 30€ for a minimum of 7 days. Cash only, but did accept payment in Croatian Kuna. Not possible to pay by card. Also, from memory the office has limited opening hours. Didn't study the (single piece of paper!) document fully, but didn't have a great deal of confidence that the cover provided equalled the level of my UK fully comp! We lived to tell the tale and wouldn't hesitate to go back again. Found the standard of driving in Bosnia pretty good, unlike some of the maniacs we encountered in Croatia! |
