Hi. Lost hazards and indicators . Fuse 31 and the other 10 amp hazard fuse blow when ignition on. Was all fine until last week, no mods or anything .. just stopped. I have replaced hazard switch... no joy. Been under wings looking for short in wiring.. nothing... got a new relay in the post ... however if that doesn't work I am faced with paying someone to do what i have already done... so looking for recommendation for an electrician who will bring something to the party!

Try the Relay first. If that doesnโt work out do you have a Multimeter?
Have you checked the connections on the indicators? Iโd start with side repeaters. You definitely have a short somewhere hence the blown fuse. Ideally you want a wiring schematic so you can trace it and rectify it. Do you still have headlights dip & main beam?
I'd take the steering column shrouds off and have a decent look at the switch and see if contacts are still in place. HTH Keith |

I will go back over all the bulb holders again... i have looked at wiring diagram but translating diagram to vehicle pathways is difficult ( if only it said brown wire runs from back of fuse box behind steering column then along nearside wing ... or something like that it would be much more useful for likes of me) Anyway I appreciate your help... great that this forum exists. I will post the eventual solution for all to see I am just wary as the last electrical problem I had I took to a local indy specialist and the mechanic didn't listen to me. Repeated what i had done and as a result left me at square one ( minus some cash) I fixed it myself that time with a steer from someone who knew their stuff ( by telephone long distance๐๐) Such fun... great vehicles but more immersive than most!! That's a good suggestion from Keith too, take a particular look at the contacts and soldered joints.

Trailer socket would be my next step. Take it off the tow bar and pull the rubber/plastic cover off its surprising how much damp crud can accumulate at the back . Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

Not sure what model/age car you have... I recently changed the loom on my 94 SW. I found that, behind the fusebox inside the bulkhead, twomof the wires had chafed through the insulation to the conductor. Nice shiny copper on view - for a big area relatively speaking - about 1.5mm x 5 or 6mm. Surprisingly I don't think it was causing me too many problems, but would have done at some stage.
So, just in case, it might be worth taking the fusebox off and having a good look at the wiring in behind. Donald 1994 Defender 300Tdi 110 SW - owned since 2002 - 230k miles and going strong (The 'rolling restoration' or tinkering thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic58538.html ) 2000 Range Rover P38 4.0L V8 in the past.. RR classic - fitted with 200Tdi 1984 RR classic - V8 with ZF auto box 1993 Discovery 300Tdi not to mention the minis and the Type 2 VW camper... |

Thanks for all the replies and advice... great ! So update.. cant find fault but after taking off steering cowl and looking at switches and wires ( all fine) i moved some cables around.. no obvious exposed wires.. then.. WORKING!! Except no flash on key fob setting of alarm and front offside indicator not working. So took front os ind bulb out... the mystery continues. New flasher relay in post and probably new bulb holder too..

Update. Thanks for all advice. I think we are sorted. Short circuit in indicator bulb holder. Blew 15 amp alarm fuse ( under drivers seat) also blew 15 amp mainbox hazard fuse and 10 amp main box hazard fuse. Looked at bulbs and holders first but didn't see anything. Changed hazard switch . Isolated dodgy bulb holder . Replaced all fuses ( again! ) and bingo all working.
So back in a happy place and learned how to change hazard switch how to remove steering cowl and how to trace various looms etc etc. This forum was once again a great help. Now have spare hazard switch and flasher relay! Will probably get round to replacing indicators and sidelights with LED as these bulb holders while simple look like they are only a millimetre away from shorting even when in good condition. Phew. |

Good work.
