Hi, I’ve booked next week off work, we were planning to head over to Ireland for camping, biking, beaching with the wife, 2 and 4 year old but the weather just looks pap, we’d rather wait and go when it stands a better chance of being less rainy.
It’s going to be fairly rainy over most of England – so – ideas please on activities one can undertake with young children, based out of the 110, could involve camping, some outdoors but some indoor. We are currently based near Cambridge but would be willing to travel a few hours. Would love to get away for at least 4 nights, would be happy spending up to £1k for the right thing. Bit vague but very keen to hear your ideas! thanks, Matt |

Devon & Cornwall's always a good spot whatever the weather, and if your going mid week you might find a good price on a static caravan last minute.
Plenty of activities that are family orientated. Eden Project is a pretty decent day out, Healy's Cider Farm is another one that my kids have enjoyed, but plenty of others depending where you end up. Best thing I'd recommend is invest in some waterproof jacket, trousers/salopettes and wellies and get on the beach. It can be blowing a Force 10, but my 3 are happy to still be out on the beach all togged up messing around. And its free  2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

I’d second Devon & Cornwall and add surfing to the list of activities. Weather doesn’t matter if you are in the sea.

If it is just 4 nights then why not head up to somewhere like Sheringham on the Norfolk coast? https://www.visitnorthnorfolk.com/places/sheringham.aspx Limit the travel time and maximise the fun time

Thanks a lot guys - so –
Given the shaky forecast we abandoned plans for heading west and in the end, the itinerary shaped up as follows – Saturday – Nene Valley Steam Rally, trains from shoebox-sized electric up to full-sized steam powered Thomas, loads of tractor engines, steam rollers etc. Headed up to near Sandringham, camped out, cheeky car boot sale on the way to the royal estate then spent most of Sunday on the grounds (not normally my thing but wife and kiddies loved it) - had a poke around the palace, the gardens, lakes, brass band and a local venison burger. Moved on to a cracking little campsite Northrepps Airfield - fire pit, sausages, wine etc. and we were only ones on the site other than the hares, rabbits and wagtails. Didn’t see any planes until this morning when we saw 2 microlights, 2 girocopters and a chap flying radio controlled planes – great entertainment for the little ones. Trips to Cromer beach, Mundesley beach, Wroxham where we hired a cruiser to head down the Broads for a few hours. Bewilderwood this afternoon which was like an enchanted forest with fairies etc – expensive but very different and loads of aerial runways, treetop rope bridges, face painting, story telling etc. Last pic is just of a shelf I cobbled together in the back. Matt, glad you managed to get away, and the weather looks like it held out for some of it at least.
