It's a fair question. My mechanic advised me that since the May 2019 changes it is no longer an MOT issue. I checked this with my MOT tester before fitting them who confirmed and indeed it did pass the MOT with them fitted.

With regard to legality further than that, I am not aware of anything? > 110 XS Double Cab

Although it isn't an MOT test issue I believe that the protrusion of those tyres does contravene the Construction & Use regs and therefore is strictly illegal, since there is tread outside the arch. It's unlikely that anyone will be bothered unless you've done something to make yourself a target however, or get a tug from VOSA.

You will find however that you get an unbelievable amount of crud all over the exterior (and interior if the windows are open) of the vehicle.

Thanks for the reply Hank Thumbs Up

That's all good then, just wasn't sure but if it's not an mot failure, then it's a good un Thumbs Up 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

blackwolf, I did some googling last night and found similar yes! I have already fallen wrath to the unbelievable amount of crud all over the exterior Big Cry

I will take my chances for the time being. If they cause me unwanted attention then they can always come back off. As bankz suggests, hopefully won't be a problem... Though I do accept they may cause nuisance to others in wet weather.

If I decide to stick with the poke then I may remove the spacers and move to a bigger offset wheel, possibly challengers or modulars. We will see > 110 XS Double Cab

I really wouldnt worry mate. My 90 went all over the country and france never had an issue. Even pulled over twice (they thought it was nicked)

Only person that did say something was a gypsy recovery driver!

Plus those wide arches would look sexy anyway Laughing Instagram @defender_ventures

When I ran 285s I did find one advantage was that in wet conditions the car behind was never too close! A major contribution to road safety perhaps?

Hank,

Looking good. Is your canopy the Exmoor Trim version? If so, happy with it?

I bought it sold as " Genuine Parts OEM take off" so don't think it's Exmoor.

It's nice though, with one gripe - the tub side ropes were perished and disintegrated when I pulled to tighten. I managed to thread new rope but was a bit of a faff > 110 XS Double Cab

I have received a couple of messages regarding the rear spring change. Unfortunately I don't have before\after shots in quick succession but I do have the below for comparison

I was back in the UK for a couple of weeks over Eid holidays so had a bit of a tart up at the front end and converted to series style light surrounds.

The original louvred grille fouled the winch so a good excuse to move over to a Zunsport item...

... Which meant filling the redundant grille holes in the grille surround panel and repainting. Then the surround panel was built back up with a stainless/black powder coated lower/air con grille fitted with black stainless bolts (m5 x 15mm for those wondering) - not that you can see it behind the winch when fitted Rolling Eyes

Fitted up with the series light surrounds. These are the Nakatanenga heritage ones from 4x4 Overlander which I went for because I like the OEM 'style' horn louvres/gills over the others available on the market. The manky screws have now been replaced with stainless.

I had been looking at how to retain my spare mach 5 wheel in the OEM position behind the cab. I wanted the wheel facing out as opposed to the factory spare set up which has the wheel face against the cab. I couldn't find anything suitable so CAD'ed up a retainer and sent the drawings off for plasma cutting in 3mm mild steel.

On the left is the retainer bracket, the middle is a spigot which locates centrally about the wheel (holes for plug welds) and on the right is some 19mm bar which will become a wheel stud preventing rotation.

I welded the three pieces together like so

Zinc etch primed, painted and with neoprene applied to the arms to protect the wheel finish

And fitted - worked out well
