Thanks for the update, not a bad price. I wonder if any genuine barn finds go for silly cheap money. James

If the reg has been lost rather than transferred it is highly likely that it could be recovered, provided that there is some documentary evidence of what it was.

A friend was interested in this so he had some extra pictures emailed by the auctioneer.
The original number plate is under the plates and comes back as a blue 1972 Rolls Royce when checked, so sounds like it was re issued or sold. It is very original, and has a 2l diesel in it which was standard up to mid ‘61. The floors and air filter are in the rear tub along with a engine gasket set, so I guess the engine was about to come out for a rebuild before it was parked up. My friend left a decent bid, but didn’t win. The auctioneer thanked him for his interest, I think they thought it would only make a few hundred quid. All in all, a nice early, original project. Good luck to whoever won it and I hope it appears on here or the Series 11 forum in the future. |

Ha. Yep it it was muddy in places, especially in the parking area. I was in my D3 so was fine, however was slightly worried as need some new AT rear boots ! Luckilly M+R got me through.
It did look fairly tidy. There was some paperwork in the window where it looks like they had tried to get the plate back. No doubt the old boy had been using it on the farm for years without worrying. There was also some documentation for Land Rover confirming build date. I didnt look to close as my missus wouldnt be impressed. Didnt realise it was an original engine. Not sure what was on the pallet next to it. Probably another engine. |

The road tax checker brings it up as a petrol, so the engine/logbook details must have been swapped at some point, or the original logbook details were incorrect from day 1.

I've just bought a S3 that has 700 miles on from new. That is the good part. The worst part is that someone left it in a barn to rot |
