United Kingdom 1986 Defender 90 2.5 n/a Diesel SW Yellow
[SSTC] - 1986 'Ninety' Station Wagon 2.5 NA
Wife has decided she'd rather have something with air con and electric windows!

Topline details:
1986 (last of the lift-up door handles pre-Defender)
2.5 NA diesel engine (Turner recon'd head)
Reg'd as a station wagon (6 seats) ie passenger vehicle
Theoretically done 108k miles but believe the engine has done fewer as is not the original
Ashcroft-recon'd LT77 box (within the last 8k miles) and new clutch

New bits of note aside from the above:
Syncro Gearboxes short-shifter - makes it much slicker I must say, second one I've had and I'd keep getting them
New starter 7k ago
Recon'd heater with new matrix
New custom fuse setup and all new external lights
Just fitted a new brake servo and clutch master cylinder
Dixon Fab Tree sliders - *just* bought, not even fitted yet but will be if I have a moment

Less desirable traits (aren't there always a few!)
As usual, marks its territory a bit
Body looking a bit tired when viewed up close
Cracked n/s rear window though still functioning fine
Doors do the job but need a fair bit of TLC (or just replacing with series doors if you're not fussed about rivets!)
Exhaust needs replacing (the back bit at least)
The chassis and bulkhead
A bit gutless going uphill (but then it did only have 65hp when brand new so hardly surprising!)

But nevertheless, just took it on a 300mi round trip to the Welsh wilderness and it didn't miss a beat. Is there more I'd do to it? Of course - money no object I'd treat it to a lovely galvanised chassis, a Glencoyne 300tdi transplant, and I'd stick one of those neat little chinese diesel heaters in it for the winter, etc etc! But I see no reason it shouldn't keep going for another 30+ years regardless, it's been great fun to own, and if it were just me I'd have kept it forever, but there we go!

Have just changed the oil (prev change 4-5k ago), tyres (G90s on standard steels) have plenty of tread and no cracking, will do the gearbox oil again (though it can only have had 5k miles since the refurb) if I get a mo next weekend, and will chuck in any bits I find in the shed (like the Glencoyne fuel pump spacer I've *also* not had time to fit yet!) for the asking price.

Speaking of which, I'm asking £4500 ono. I've spent thousands on it, and appreciate won't get anywhere near all that back of course! Lots of receipts dating back to its rebuild by Liveridge (when it was converted to SW from HT) in the early 2000s.

Obvs welcome to come and have a look at a mutually convenient time. Located in Templecombe, Somerset. Feel free to ask any questions, and thanks for looking! Happy to add any other pics requested Smile

I've no doubt I will regret it! But no space nor funds for a 'spare' car, and she's adamant she wants a modern Eurobox so there we go! Still, the young guy who's come to look at it today was clearly a big fan so no doubt Sunny will be well taken care of which is half the point, and he's pretty local so hopefully I'll see Sunny around the place every so often!
