HELP with immobiliser/battery issue

Hi everyone,

I haven't been on here for ages, so apologies to return requesting help!

I'm currently up in the lake district and would appear to be stuck on the caravan site. Intermittently for the last few months my 2012 90 has been setting the battery back up alarm off when I go to start the car, and then would start after a few tries. It was acting as if the main ground for the battery was poor and so the car thought it had been disconnected. Today however, it had the same symptoms, alarm going off, I managed to stop the alarm after a few attempts, but now the car is unresponsive to start. There is ignition, but it won't click over. Almost like the immobiliser is armed?

Anyone have any idea of a plan of action? I've never had an EKA code with the handbook so that isn't an option, and I would presume the dealership would not give me it over the phone?

It sounds as though the battery’s gone in your fob . Pop a new one in and see if it makes a difference .
Mine has also been playing up for the past month then wouldn’t start altogether two days ago, new battery fixed it straight away !

That sounds like the main battery is flat. There have been several similar instances reported on here, where the battery has got so low that trying to start the engine drops the voltage enough to kick in the BBUS. Darren

Thanks for the replies guys,

I have recently (in the last 6 months) changed the fob batteries as the range on them seemed very poor, so surely these wouldn't be depleted already?

The main battery is reading 12.6v currently, so should have enough to start, is there a way of resetting the immobiliser at all apart from the EKA code route?

The only other way would be with a decent diagnostic tool. However, despite the static battery voltage, I still see that as the prime suspect as all of the symptoms you describe point that way.

The BBUS is a simple affair and it's only activated when it detects that the battery has been disconnected (or is flat).

Have you got a set of jump leads, as that would be an easy way to prove it or otherwise? Darren
