That interview is cropping up on e few Australian sites. Some interesting comments amount durability and comparisons with the Land Cruiser.

the future tech we can expect from JLR, some of which might be in the new Defender:

Allows you to pay for the recovery truck from the comfort of your seat once out of warranty, or for JLR to reward you with an elusive bonus payment if you make it to end of warranty without needing to get something fixed
All of this assuming the infotainment SOTA system will still be working when needed. I suspect the primary driver for its development is that last box on the right. "New Revenue Streams". A handy way of selling you additional services that you don't really need |

I think the D5s have a SIM card in them, as I was told of one that LR tried to update over the air and bricked it. Instead of having a minor software update, it ended up getting dragged onto the back of a recovery lorry.
I’m all for software and the like being updated remotely, information coming directly to the vehicle and such like but the “in vehicle payments” doesn’t sit quite right with me if it’s as it sounds. I hope it’s not a thing where your new Defender gets a message up on the info screen 6 months in and you get the option to activate latent features like fuel burning heaters, or different displays / screens or something. I wouldn’t surprise me if you’re given the option to extent / improve the warranty / book and pay for servicing. Will be interesting to see |

D5s do indeed have a SIM card, because when a friend was rear-ended a voice asked if she was alright. She said it was more frightening than the bump. She asked what would happen if she didn't answer and the voice said we call the emergency services. So presumably they listen in to car conversations, or could.
