I thought I’d share some pics of the venter trailer tent, made in South Africa and imported by a South African in Yate, Bristol.
He agreed to let us rent one for a 10 day tour of Cornwall , it’s been an absolute blast and the idea was to try before we buy ! Conclusion is it’s a well built piece of kit but not really manufactured for the British weather, being mainly sheet steel with what appears to be thin layers of paint it’s going to be susceptible to our salty air down in Cornwall. I suppose you could waxoyl or similar but that would add to the cost of what’s a very expensive bit of kit ! Also lack of hand brake is a pain when unhitching on slopes, wooden blocks feel a bit inadequate. Short wheelbase makes it a pain to reverse . We’re a family of five and although we did all fit in , it was a tight squeeze. The idea was to use it for two though , when the kids are at school ! The trailer itself is really just a big box, no clever slide out draws etc. It was perfectly ok but long term you’d want better access to kit. Upside is you can open and close the lid when the trailer is erect .also there’s a handy front locker , big enough for a large cool box . The tent took around 10 minutes to erect and a similar time to put down. Not as speedy as the hardtop variety and not ideal if you’re moving site daily . We had 25mph winds on occasion and it stood up well but the odd loud flap or bang would wake you up with a jolt . All in all a fun toy but for the price Id rather spec something myself that was more complete . Probably a braked trailer , with drawers and a hardtop tent . Definitely worth renting though , looks the part and tows like a dream . In that case , drive up to Trevone Bay and from there follow map for Crugmeer. It’s one of my favourite spots to drive past and has a cracking view
